ive seen alot of posts on oil filters

came accross one about a bigger filter thats exact fit. is this really a exact fit wont harm the car whatsoever? what brand and what part number?

Redog 08-09-2008 03:26 PM

Well the 3400 uses the ACDeclo PF47 filter, but I heard that the PF52 fits and gives an extra .5 quart.

An extra .5 quart, or one pint, of oil isn't going to hurt anything with the PF47 or the PF52, but the PF52 will require it due to it being bigger ;)

You wanna see a big oil fiter, look at the oil fiters on big rig trucks, they are HUGE!

irondiezl3 08-09-2008 03:46 PM

how would i cross refrence pf52 with like a fram or bosch oil filter i wonder?

Redog 08-09-2008 03:51 PM

Try thier web sites ;)

Fram Ph3980 is a larger replacement filter and is the one i have been using for 3 yrs now.

I'm using one of the K&N filters..... its an oversized one at that (quite abit bigger than the stock sized filter, almost twice as long)

HAHA funny you say. Ive been a diesel mechanic for just over a year now and its funny to see you need to look at caterpillar oil filter for semi's. They hold 1.5-2L of oil. and VolVo semi's have 3 oil filters that hold 1.2L each. LOL/

I've used the PF52 for pretty much the entire life of the car. Just bought a whole case of 12 on ebay for $25 shipped....STEAL!

only a year? what do you specialize in? i've been a diesel technician for 12 yrs now.

and yes cars need maintenance, BUT they won't cheat on you, spend more time with their friends, or be very petite, take up 3/4 of the bed and want to hug you all night. (i need my room to sleep)

Just look up the filter used on the 4.3 chevy astro. That motor takes the longer filter that everyone is talking about.

thats cool, diesel technician is a lucrative business, keep learning, i'm an electronics specialist, and make great money, and want to become a consultant possibly one day.

joserivas19 08-17-2008 07:52 PM

so what exactly does a bigger filter do besides hold more oil? is there a performance diff, or is it better for the engine or anything like that?
