Couple Questions

So, I've been having this issue with Belt Squeal.

Anytime It's a Moist or the day after a rainy day, My car Squeaks at idle. It drives me insane and makes me want to kill kittens. Anyone have any idea on what might be causing it?

Also, My car has been running really warm lately, but not according to the temp gauge. Mind you, when i open the hood, It's like a Wave of heat smacks me in the face.

P.S, Intake is ordered from e-Bay. K and N filter FTW? or can i get away with the crappy one for a little while?

01oldsgls 08-13-2008 01:38 AM

just go with the k and n. do it right the first time :)

meadus101 08-13-2008 01:45 AM

Yea, I'll do it when I can get my hands on 20 bucks. I heard of a Ractive filter too. Anyone ever use it?

Or this one

I obviously won't buy it from Canadian Tire, but Is there a Certain Filter Number i should get if I purchase an K and N?

Not engine related. Broken Springs in the seat, Any suggestions? I think I'm going to need to cut them out, but how would one get access to such thing? Is there a clip somewhere holding the fabric on?

Before someone gets lippy and says Racing seats. My ass is much too large to fit in them.

Is the hood sealed all the way? Are the hood stops in the right postion? How old's the belt? Don't kill kittens becuase if it!!!!

Normally I would say a tensionor is bad or something but it sounds like the belt/pullies are getting wet and causing slipping.

Can you tell how hot the hoses are? The temp gauge measurse the coolant temp. See if a mech has a scanner that reads the PCM and tell you what the coolant temp is, mines hangs out around 186*

Where is the broken spring in the seat?, can you get it from the bottom?

i know exactly what youre talking about. and with the amt of rain weve been getting, ive also thought about killing kittens. it seems like its the belt for me, it looks kinda worn. im getting new set of pullies, and a new belt put on by the end of the week hopefully, so that should fix it. i would try changing the belt, especially if you dont know how old it is.

the fabric on the seats just has a few little loops that its held in by. if you look around you should easily be able to find them, and remove the seat covers.

definitely do not use the eBay filter. mine fell apart when i took it off to replace it with a quality Tenzo one. lol it just broke into pieces, imagine if that got pulled into the engine lol

True that ;)

So, With the belt squeal getting worse and worse.

Wouldn't you know... I'm losing Antifreeze.

Where should I look? Should I even bother? or would it bet better to let my Mech do it and replace the belts too.

[ion] C2 11-28-2008 02:08 PM

the coolant reservoir... one of the hoses or connections or reservoir is leaking and spitting coolant on your belt!

clearly.

meadus101 11-28-2008 02:14 PM

Already looked... Nothing to see there.

come on man, give me SOME credit :p

[ion] C2 11-28-2008 03:19 PM

feel up your hoses and see if they're wet. squeeze em and see if you notice anything squirting out.

wow that sounded SO nasty.

meadus101 12-03-2008 11:01 AM

Hawt Ion.

I've gone through everything. and Can't find it.

Oil isn't white or discoloured in any way, still the beautiful colour of Penziol High mileage.

Came across something the other day when i picked up antifreeze. It was something in a bottle called "Stop Leak" I know the rule is no bottle fixes anything, but it seemed like it might work.

Another though... Dexcool mixed with the stuff thatyou can combine with "Any colour antifreeze" still Gels up right? There COULD be some dexcool still in the system somewhere from the previous owner. but I was told that it was Any make any Model in it.

how much would 1 pay for a tranny flush?

Car almost hit the red mark on the temp gauge today.

I was rotted.

Possible gelling of Coolant....

Someone mentioned the water pump demon.

At this note, just tossing it into a shop, not risking anything else.

Making the call tomorrow. i'll keep this updated.

meadus101 04-11-2009 09:20 PM

This turned out to be the Thermostat housing. It was rusted right out. So it's been replaced, New Thermostat while he was in there. I didn't have a chance to tell him to get a lower temp one.

Back on the Air Filters, I've never gotten an answer.

They Say K&N Require Oiling regularly, but I've heard of the Oil Messing up components further down the Airways.

I've heard things about the AEM dryflow ones as well, I'm assuming there's no issues with Oil messing up sensors and whatnot.

Opinions!

Sorry for the late update, I found this thread and had more questions, So I don't wanna post a new thread.

Oldsman 04-12-2009 09:17 AM

i have been running a K&N for yearsssssssss and i have recharged it and no problems.

AEM is supposely ok. I would go with either one

cherrington17 04-12-2009 09:36 AM

ironically... everyone says to NOT use the ebay ones... but thats what i've had for years now (my wai came with non KN filter) and its still in good shape.
