Security Light... Again
Just replaced the ignition switch few weeks ago.... Worked fine for awhile and now its cutting out again, wtf? Its the same problem all over again?
|
may be the fuel pump, which is normally misdiagnosied with the ignition switch, I only had the problem once, never fixed it tho, and i worked fine, let the car set in on position for 10 mins and then crank it, another thing that worked for me when my security light came on was to jump the piss out of it, surge of power i think shorted the security feature, but not sure.
|
If your security light is still going off, it might be time to get a new key cut from the manufacturer, I hear that could help with the problem.. especially considering you just had the ignition switch fixed-
think its around 8 - 10 bucks for a new key. |
I have all new keys cut directly from the VIN code.
|
Did you install the ign cyl or did you have it done?
Maybe you got a bad unit |

I doubt the bad unit. I had a mechanic friend install it for me while I was present. |
Take the car back ;)

:rolleyes2:
Real help maybe, anyone ..... |
passlock is the gayest thing gm made, next to the LIMG that keeps leaking. I beleive a bypass module or even bypassing it yourself is going to be your best bet. I had both my ignition replaced (after a tumbler went bad) and the BCM replaced and the damn light still kept turning on from time to time...
I vote bypass. |

Thanks, I am leaning towards that... But was hoping I wouldn't have to. I would rather fix it correctly if possible. |
i had it go off 5 times in one day... and and 3 times the next day it makes me want to hit the car with a sledge hammer

That may be fixing it right, if you do not actually have passlock activated on your car, take it all out, just extra pieces, hey you may gain extra hp, lmao |

ha... yeah maybe 5-10hp or so... thanks for the humor. It just irks me that I already spent money on parts and the problem isn't fixed, and now I have to figure this crap out all over again, spend more money, more time, and even then it may work or may not work. Was hoping someone who had the same prob would chime in. Already sifted through 5 pages of thread search results and couldn't find a definative answer. |

Guess my words didn't really mean anything then. Seriously, I have not had a passlock issue once since I bypassed it. |

lol... Then what I meant to say was, I was also hoping to hear from someone who had this prob AND was able to fix it correctly without bypassing :p I might have no other choice but to go that route, but I still don't want to... |
not to harp, but seriously bro I think the only way ur gonna do it is to bypass it. I had the problem once but it went away. Oldsmobile and GM do not know how to build a car, thats why I went import, and will never go back, far more superior a car then american, no offense to anyone I love my Alero, it was my first car I bought myself and completley moddified. GM did a lot of stupid idiotic, moronic, dumb things, passlock was one, plastic retainer clips for the regulator, and other plastic pieces, upper and lower intake manifold gaskets, shitty seats, dashboards that warp and wrinkle, and peel off, gas gauges that fail, leaky sunroofs, oh an how bought this one FAULTY GLOVEBOX LATCH:Rage::bs: Sorry I got amped for a second :)
