New Head Unit

Well its not a McIntosh this time. But its sweet none the less.

I like JVC units since I bought an DigiFine SH-55 for $170 years back. I then moved onto a KD-AR7000 which was awesome. Now onto this unit, the EXAD KD-AVX11

I ended up picking this up for a bargain price off the local craigs list. Guy said it still had the plastic over the screen portion, so I thought cool. Well it was dark out and I couldnt see the best.

Now Im home and peeled that plastic off it has a lot of very minor scratches. I thought it was new with factory cover, but thats not so.

Oh well, I will purchase some plastic polish and the small light scratches will disappear like magic!

it also didnt come with the trim ring or the remote.

Evidently this guy is a repo man and this came out of a repoed car... So pay your car payments people... lol

...and what makes this one so sweet?? or, what makes it better then that hideous thing you used to have?

Well its a DVD player. movie on the screen ;)

I can make my own wallpapers/screen savers.

It has output for more screens.

3 sets preouts.

Does DVD MP3's... :)

24 bit dac resolution.

Half the price of the one I was about to buy off flea bay...

cherrington17 09-25-2008 07:15 AM

well...then.... i approve.... i guess. :p

Gr1m 09-25-2008 07:39 AM

u gonna watch a dvd on a 2.5" screen? lol

Ryan from Ohio 09-25-2008 07:57 AM

Sure. Not like I roll around in my car to watch movies, but if Im stuck somewhere, waiting, etc now I can.

What Im gonna like most is the larger display for backgrounds, etc. Also the capability to play DVD MP3's. Thats a TON of music... lol

Gr1m 09-25-2008 08:21 AM

thats only like 1000 songs per dvd

Ryan from Ohio 09-25-2008 09:41 AM

I dont even have 2K mp3's so im set...

Gr1m 09-25-2008 09:51 AM

hehe i have a lot so im good with my 7" touchscreen with the ipod hookup

cherrington17 09-25-2008 11:42 AM

i have my pioneer w/ usb output/aux on front for others.

i just leave my ipod connected. makes it easy to sync when i want to update playlists, instead of reburning a disc.

burner ftl.

Wow that thing is scratched to shit but good find

Ryan from Ohio 09-26-2008 09:09 AM

Ya theres a lot of smaller scratches in it.

I got some Novus Plastic polish on the way. Should be here tomorrow...

Im going to get the electronics out of the face plate and polish it on a flat surface to remove all the scratches. Should do the trick nicely.

The unit didnt come with remote, face case or trim ring. I can get these direct from JVC, remote: $22, Case $11, trim ring $13 plus a little shipping/tax. Still even if I get $150-160 into this its still a bargain...

Ryan from Ohio 09-29-2008 12:46 PM

Installed it over the weekend.

Even though the pic shows it scratched to hell its amazingly clear. To be honest, when installed and not even in use you cant see any scratches.

I need to check the manuals to see if this has the PICT technology or not. I thought I could load my own screen savers/pics on the unit like I could my old AR7000 but nothing jumped out at me in the menus. if I cant this unit sucks! lol

Ryan from Ohio 09-30-2008 08:50 PM

Well i got it polished tonight.

novus 3 step process. Worked frickin great!

Fi-Alero 09-30-2008 11:19 PM

Nice unit you got there, Ryan. JVC makes some great stuff.

That plastic polish works wonders. I've used it on a few customer's headunits.

Ryan from Ohio 10-01-2008 06:58 AM

lol, thats my telephone... Wow I didt even realize that at first.

Im gonna try and take a better shot tonight. That one was a bit blurry.

darksobsession 10-17-2008 05:04 AM

i didn't know jvc made car audio. how's the deck workin out? i wouldn't think it would compare to a mcintosh.

cherrington17 10-17-2008 06:58 AM

wow. i'm impressed at how clean that got. nice job.

lonnie 10-17-2008 07:57 AM

looking good but the proof will be in the front shot when the light hits it sort of like the top pic

Ryan from Ohio 10-17-2008 08:10 AM

Trust me this thing look like new...

My pic skills sux.

Its a decent deck. not a McIntosh but still works wonderful.
