larger oil filter?

ive read in another post that there is a larger oil filter that fits the 3.4, which gives you more surface area in the filter, and can, i suppose help with filtering it. i was curious if there was a larger filter that could be used on the 2.4 for the same reason?

Not that I'm aware of.

ya, dont think it could be any wider and still mount up right. thanks for the response freeze, ill gove it a shot next time i change the oil.

With what I know, I personally wouldn't try it... Unless they have just recently made a larger filter that is compatible... Otherwise you are gambling with your engine.

What's the point? The normal size filter works just fine filtering the oil. If it didn't, GM would've gave it a larger filter to begin with.

billytheman1188 10-14-2008 06:38 PM

^^^^^AGREED. what are the benefits of having a larger filter? Cause it filters better???????????? i think the smaller one will filter just as well...

TheEdgeofSanity 10-14-2008 09:05 PM

gm goes with the smaller ones because of either cost or space issues. like, the v6 alero uses a pf47 but a pf52 will work. pf52's are biggger, so they cost more because there's more to them

cherrington17 10-14-2008 09:12 PM

i just got the pf52 this time around... just to see if the oil stays cleaner, a little longer. more filter SHOULD in theory, clean for longer. but who knows. we'll see.

It definately helps, without a doubt. Just don't forget you have to add a little extra oil to make up for the difference, of course.

cherrington17 10-14-2008 09:26 PM

i put 5qts in, instead of 4.5 i'm still slightly over the top of the "fill" line

CactusWill 10-14-2008 09:29 PM

Word. Larger filter + extra available oil capacity = what snoop dogg might refer to as an 'oil change supreme'

cherrington17 10-14-2008 09:32 PM

i'd love to move to the mercedes system.... but something tells me it'd be a little bit of an overhaul.

CactusWill 10-14-2008 09:39 PM

And you'd have to spend a crapload of money on new tools.

cherrington17 10-14-2008 09:46 PM

i mean, move to their... like 12qt system...

CactusWill 10-14-2008 09:52 PM

Ahhh... Well all you needs to do that is bigger oil pan, and stuff.

Gr1m 10-14-2008 10:09 PM

yea changing 12qts of oil would hurt the wallet a little
