What grade gas?
I was wondering what grade of gas is best for my Alero?
87 works just fine unless you have significant engine mods that require a higher grade. I've found better mpg using 89, but thats just me and not to be the sworn by truth applying to everybody.
Mine always liked 103 octane. It ate it quicker so it must like it better
where do you ger 103 octane from?
track LOL
Honestly you won't need more than 87 or 89 if you are stock. |

The better question is where to get a new engine if you run this... |
lol so I have a stock Alero 3.4 with a k&n air filter but will be adding mods in the Spring. So for right now 87 or 89 is pretty much good but when I add on more mods I need to put 93.Why do I need to put a higher grade fuel when I put in the mods anyway?
Even with the mods, it won't require a higher octane. Jackal2000 did a DHP pcm upgrade which required him to jump to 93.
ok so I should only put higher octane if the mod says it requires it?
I think the DHP is about the only thing that requires it, so you should be good with the cheap stuff.
You only need a higher octane gas if you have a higher compression engine.
*if you're producing a lot of heat that may cause pre-ignition
honestly if your engine doesnt require more than 87 octane than you wont notice any change at all. it is all based around compression, and if your engine doesent require a change of gasoline than its not worth the extra cash you would pay for it.
Does anybody know where i can get a dhp for cheap and a cold air intake?
you don't need DHP if your only running a CAI, don't waste your money. rebuild the engine, get headers and a full exhaust, then go dhp. won't do much till then.
cheap CAI, go to ebay. |
