ran out of gas, car will not start
hey, i ran out of gas (ima doofus)
i did all of this, and it still will not run.... put gas in put heet in cleared the fuel rail checked and pulled every fuse and relay it will run if i dump some gas in the TB... but just until the gas runs out. it is getting gas to the rail. i can clear the rail and turn the car on, and it has pressure. what is the trick to getting the injectors working again??? |
Wow not sure I've run out of gas before but all I ever do is put gas in and crank away and she starts up??? Good luck sir.
|
might have burned out the injectors who knows

that's what I was thinking, running out of gas in a FI car is bad |
ahhh...
ok, put more gas in, got it to 1/4 tank. turn ign on/off/on/off cleared fuel rail ign on/off/on/off turned over... wooooott!!!! thank you all!! |
what do you mean by "cleared fuel rail"??
|
i think he means that he turned the key to "on" without engaging the starter and let the fuel pump run through a cycle. it prolly pushed out an air bubble in the line or something
|
maybe by pulling the spark and cranking the engine so the fuel injectors shoot fuel to purge the line?

we're trying to figure out what "clearing the fuel rail" meant... |
I think TeoS is saying him turning the ignition on/off on/off is what's clearing it. How does pressurizing the rail "clear" it? lol, the injectors aren't open unless the car's running... at least that's what I thought.

the purge valve on the end of the rail by the alternator will let the air that is in the line between the fuel pump and the valve out which will take stress off the pump and allow the car to start easier once the remaining air is let out via the fuel injectors. |
