What size wrench for inner tie rod...
 

where the threaded side of the inner tie rod screws into the actual end of the rack & pinion.. what size would that be? 1 1/2 maybe? All I have is metric wrenches and tried with a pair of vice grips but still no good, so I need to know what size wrench to go buy right now. Need an answer asap

it is a certain tool you need to remove them, you can rent the tool from a local autoparts store..

I dont know what size wrench it would be but did you try an adjustable one? Good luck.

yea dont work, I need an actual wrench that would fit, I tried my vice grips and a metric wrench but that puppy aint goin anywhere.

All it is is just a two sided bolt that where it would screw up to the rack, I used to work for GM and my old co worker that did nothing but suspension work used a wrench, I just cant remember what size it was for the life of me..so what Im askin is I need someone who has actually changed out their inner tie rod before

nope no specialty tool, all napa and pep boys had were pitman arm pullers, the fork lookin things and those wont work. So anybody changed their inner tie rods before? Just to let u know my car is jacked up in my garage and cant move anywhere inless I tow the POS to work

its a 1 3/8 wrench, sears only has huge open ended wrenches which wont work in the limited space I have...so Im just gonna tow it to work, put it in my bay and take a torch to it and loosen it up that way. Ill just call it a late night at work and fix my shit on my lift

actually there is a tool specially made for inner tie rod like nate said...

well i went to napa and pep boys and i looked at the rental tools they have and all they had was pitman arm pullers, that aint gonna work

no, that won't work.... funny that they don't have this tool to rent ....

I even looked at the tools to buy and nada damn thing. Im just gonna tow it into work this week

I do believe you need both an inner tie rod tool and the saginaw tie rod tool used in conjunction with each other. They're loaner tools at AutoZone.





Just make sure that when you torque the new tie rod end down that you use a wrench on the end of the rack to prevent damage.

That does look right, except I went to autozone and they said they didnt have any special tool for my need, but Ill be sure to ask some co workers what they have, thanks cliff
