Heres the delio all, lets see if any of you can figure it out because I cant. I had my new wheels put on about a month ago. The first time I drove it I noticed a big shake/wobble in my car when i reached speeds of about 65 or over and when braking. The steering wheel shakes and everything. Its very annoying driving down the road passing somebody going 80 when your car is shaking. I know it has something to do with my new wheels because it didnt do it before i put them on. I had an allignment done thinking that might help but it didnt. My car has been sitting in a shed at work for about 3 1/2 weeks now (waiting for my latest mod) and I dont know if I should drive my car at all because I dont know if driving the car when its doing this will hurt anything. Will it? The bolt pattern of the wheels are 5 x 114.3, so the way I figure it, I either need some hubcentric rings(which I have no idea where to get) or one or more of my wheels are out of balance(but the manufacturer said they come balanced so I didnt even look to check) Anybody?

First, I would get the wheels balanced. The wheels might be balanced, but when you put tires on them you need to have them rebalanced.

Second, get the hubcentric rings.

or try your local wheel dealer.
THe Alero hub is 70.3mm

Third, you may have warped rotors.

Haha, yeah, check the balancing...we were on vacation once and our wheels hadn't been balanced properly so the car shook like a mofo with any speed over 55. You should get it checked asap b/c the shaking could wear down your suspension.

my aftermarket bolt pattern is 5X114.3 also, no problems here, some shakes at 100+ but NOTHING scary, or like you're explaining, and i assume the alero isnt built smoothly for that speed @ a mostly stock setup.

related topic ... car shaking .... all of the sudden this is happening to alot of people, myself included ;)

I had the same issue with aftermarket wheels on my 99 Mazda Protege. The shop could never find out why it would shake at like 55. I had several things replace with no help. So I found a set of nice Mazda wheels on ebay and put them on and had no more problems with it. So that was a big turn off on aftermarket wheels for the Alero. I would love to get some bigger wheels for it some day, but I am worried that I will be stuck in the same position.

thought id add a little here... my car has always been a little "unstable" at speeds of 100+, even with stock wheels and suspension.

My car's fine all the way up to 170Km, that is until the Govenor Kicks in (Grrr) But it shakes like a bitch when i thoch the brakes.... Getting the Rotors Machined in a few days. Should fix it.

Is there a way to remove the goveror on a auto Alero?
Anyone?

Johnny! you got the wheels, yea i've had mine for a while, finally put them on a couple weeks ago, and i'm shaking too. I'm thinking i need hubcentric rings.

Im gonna take some pics soon, just wanna order some lowering springs or have my friends dad make me some coilovers for like 200...where are your pics at? which ones did you go with?

Grouch- The wheels were mounted, THEN balanced. I know, i got from the same company

Don't be discouraged, the wheels were probably not balanced right. And always use hubcentric rings on aftermarket wheels... They are very inexpensive and can only make things better.
