Rattle Suppress?
Rear view mirror and trunk vibrate like crazy... doesn't sound so great.. i got two 12's in my trunk.. i know some of you guys have bigger subs than me.. how did ya get rid of the rattle? Dynomat is the obvious solution.. but do you know any others?
there is all kinds of dynomat type stuff out there, but that is the route you're gonna need to go
I was thinking of using good stuff. because there is only one part on my trunk that rattles crazily. the part where the license plate goes, that split causes rattle.

yeah man.. you know where it says "alero" that little thin piece is what makes all the sound.. |
yeah, it's really hard to stop that thing from rattling. my uncle suggested putting some clear silicone in there, but it might still rattle.

After fixing those rattles you'll find others. My underbody rattles, clip holding the driver's sun visor rattled, wire in my dash.. etc. I used a bunch of fatmat in the trunk, and it works well, but you'll never get rid of them all. For your rear view mirror, try tightening the screw(s); that fixed mine.

+1 thanks |
For the license plate plastic part that joins with the metal part, I've heard dynomat between those two pieces fixes it. As for the mirror, tighten the screw as much as you can. I actually had my mirror fall several times before I did that and now no falling.

um i was thinking about at thread for this but i guess it applys, im getting alot of rattling from my vents with out subs so far, usualy moving them alittle bit causes it to quit, makes it sound like busted speak sometimes, but its the vents, anyone esle have this happen and fix it?
u guys with the rattlign lisence plates, r u using 4 screws or 2
use 4 and put rubber washers in between the plate and car
i do used 4 i was gonna recommend that to them
yea i had mad trunk trunk rattle with the same thing 2 12's i mean its not perfect but it helps and i dont have money to drop on mat yet
If you wont buy matting to stop your rattles, do it for the extra base. After you do your trunk you'll find the base a lot smoother and you gain back everything that's being lost to the holes and gaps that the sound escapes through. That also means people outside the vehicle hear it less.

i used air conditioner insulation foam for the back trunk lid, just rip it to size and place pieces where the metal is contacting the plastic, you can also shove some where the rear deack meets the bottom of the back windshield to prevent that rattling, and for my rear view mirror, i dont have one and have not had it for almost 2 years because my subs just overpower it everytime.

You may want to check out the dampening thread that cherrington has up and possible think about going in on a group buy with some of those guys. Its hard to get rid of all trunk rattle, very hard...the body panels on the car are actually expanding and contracting because of the pressure so just doing the trunk is going to eliminate all the rattle. I don't know what they were thinking a GM when they chose to split the trunk like that, and the license plate will rattle constantly unless you use 4 screws ...I actually use two at the top and velcroed the bottom and that has seemed to work but to each his own. Every one has a different solution and you may very well find totally different from us that works better for you.
Good Luck, and welcome to the site...I don't remember a intro thread from you! |
dynomat the back of the license plate and use 4 screws works like a charm lol
any suggestions on the rattling vents?
your talking about the front vents for heat/AC? ive never heard of them rattling
yeah the front ones, left diver and right passenger, you move them and it usually stops, even if i put them back in the same position, but is there a way to fix it
