HI im new to the forums and need some help.

I just bought a 2001 Alero GLS with the 3.4 V6, i want to mod the car but my parents are totally against it.
I have installed a CAI without them knowing and now i want to do an exhaust but do not want them to know. can i get some hp and better breathability with only a slight change in sound? I would like it to sound close to stock at idle and a little over but have a nice growl when i get on it, i have a friend who is an awesome welder who has done exhausts b4 but we need some ideas as to how to keep it relatively quiet. Plz let me know what u think, i will reply in a week, i am leaving on vacation shortly. Thank you and good bye for now.

Well you would be looking at a muffler like a big flowmaster... Deff not the 40/50 series...

Or some sort of magnaflow.
But with any muffler will be quite mild at idle...
And as long as you idle it outta teh driveway all should be fine.
But is it your car... or not...
Cus my rents dont give a poop about me moddin my car as long as i dont void my warrenty:P lol

Magnaflow mufflers are known to be quiet at idle and really open up when you punch it. Also remember that the larger the muffler, the quieter it will be.

get straight pipes, they will never know

the flowmaster 60 series has a very nice sound

I'm going with the Dynomax Super Turbo Camaro Muffler... i ordered mine off summit racing yesterday...

Says its only slightly louder than OEM... until ya get on it.

i would say get a catback borla. it is nice a quiet till you get on it hard.

far as muffler i would say magnaflow. because i have one on mine and it is quiet at idle.

alerored04 06-16-2004 12:38 AM

where would i get a resonator and would a silencer built in to the muffler help or hurt me?

Oldsman 06-16-2004 12:46 AM

you can get a resonator from magnaflow.

theres already a resonator on there isn't there? why put another one on?

flowmaster 80-series is one of the easiest BUT it's a dual exhaust setup so if ur looking to keep it stock in appearance as well then this might not be what you're looking for. The 60 is good too

yes there is....i paid $25 to have mine cut OFF  from Meineke. It sounds nicer at idle and it gurgles and rumbles more when i romp on it..i love NOT having resonators. BUT once again..if u don't want ur rents to know then LEAVE THEM ON!

I dunno about using the 80 to hide it from your parents.. My mom noticed mine was louder. But then again she's into cars, so I dunno. I'd tend to agree with Oldsman, go Borla.
