forgive me but ive been wodering cause ive done other headunits b4, why does a fuse need to be tapped into on the alero when you put in a new head

You need a accessory wire to cut the radio on. You can use the brown or orange wire at the key. Personally Id buy the harness, otherwise its a good chance youll get false warning lights coming on and off. Besides itll keep the setting that allows the radio to stay on until you open the drivers door.

I just put a new head unit in my Alero a month or two ago, I didn't have to tap into anything, works fine. I went to Wally World and got the adapter. I just have a crappy old Sony that I got for free.

if you get the adapter you dont need to tap into any fuses/lines, if you dont then you just need a 12v ignition wire so that the head unit knows when to turn on.

the car audio said i need to tap in to a fuse to tell it when to turn on and off

Misuseofyou 03-16-2009 05:57 PM

Thats the accessory power wire, it doesn't draw its power from it but is told to turn on by that circuit being energized. You can make an extension and tap it into accessory power in the bundle of ignition wires or connect it to 12v constant and take the faceplate off when you want it to turn on and off. I suggest the second since with no adapter thing when you turn the car off your stereo will go off with it. With the latter option you have complete control over when your stereo is on (dont even need your keys).

just buy the chime kit it will save you a big headach.
you wont have to tap into any wires its a plug and play.

03alero2.2 03-18-2009 10:10 PM

i got it now it came withe this thing to stick into the fuse hole than you put the fuse back in and that tells the radio when to turn on and off

AleroDrime 03-19-2009 11:55 AM

um why would try to wire a head without the unit adapter????????????

AleroDrime 03-19-2009 11:58 AM

hey real quick, low on budget right now but an getting a new head, wich means the subs and amp are being hooked up, the amp draws 12 volts, but ofcourse thats only when it hits hard, should the stock size battery befine for a month or so of should i hold off longer on ataching that power cable
