Help!
Last month I was driving my car a little too fast in the parking lot at school. I ended up catching some ice and sliding into the curb, where I broke the steering knuckle and cv boot joint and bent the rim. I have now replaced the bent strut, replaced the cv axle changed the steering knuckle and gotten a new rim. I went to take it out of the garage at school today and found that when I put the car into gear that is "clunked" into gear like I wasn't completely off the gas pedal, which I was. Help please!! Anyone know what's going on? I'm thinking I'm going to have to have the transmission looked at by a pro who knows what he's doing... but I thought I would try here first so I could brace myself for a rebuild/replacement or whatever I would need to do. Help please!!!

hmmm, were you on a hill at all? and dont drive fast, whatever it is, you deserve it :(

I was on level ground. At first I thought it was just the cv jumping back into place a little, like it was a little out of alignment from being replaced, but it still does it like its bad. I know I deserve it, I am just trying to figure out what the problem is. That's all... |

well, to figure out why its popping, hmmmm, set your parking brake, and then put into park, shut it off, let it sit, and then when you restart, KEEP THE PARKING BRAKE ON! and put into drive, if it does not clunk, it was that it had tension on the park gear, and if it does, we have some problems that lie somwhere |
Or the IAT may be loose/fooked up. If it seriously hardcore clunks into gear and has extremely hard/fast shifts.

forgot about that, well lets see of it clunks with no weight on it |
a little clunk is normal, now if its hitting hard every gear your tranny is in safe mode and you need to get the codes read to see what it is.

we have a safe mode??? jesus, our trannies are smart as hell |

It doesn't hit every gear hard. It shifted alright once I was moving. Just the intial put it in "D" was when the clunck happened. |

go outside, start it, put into drive, set parking brake while in drive, and then put in park, get out go inside for 15 minutes, and then go back out, start it, and put into D and release brake, if it clunks then, we will go into more depth |
what about when you turn corners? does it clunk then? and, deos it clunk everytime you put it in gear or jsut once and a while? it likely just a lil space b/t where the car stopped on the park gear and where it hits the drive gear, which is nbd and very common.

hahah what i said up there, great minds think alike, only some are slower than others :p |

When I put it into drive it clunks hard like the rpms are too high, but they aren't. It clunks every time I take it out of drive and put it back into drive. It also clunks slightly when going into "R" but no where near as bad when it is being put into "D". It also still clunks when the parking brake is on. I scanned the vehicle PCM through the service connector using AutoTap and the only code that was present was P0102 with the details mass air flow circuit sensor low frequency. Upon looking that up, I realized that has to do with the air intake, not he transmission. So if its in safe mode, it didn't log it as a code. Any suggestions? |

I replaced my MAF and the car acted all wierd after about 10 mintues of driving.
I was going to work and the car then statred revving like crazy, like the tranny was slipping big time, then it banged in gear, I mean banged and chripped the wheels going only 35 MPH. Pulled over and the car was slowy revving up without hitting the gas so I turned the car off. Not smart I know but I didn't want it to hit the rev limiter, if it was still there. The car then would not start back up. I unplged the MAF and it turned over and ran for about 3 seconds then stalled. Still wouldn't start after that. So I unpluged the MAF and it tried to turn over, after the 3rd try it turned over but was going vvroom, vrroom, vrroom, dropping to 450 RPM between each time, then stalled again. Did the same thing, only quickly pluged the MAF back in and it ran good. Shifting into gear, holding the brake, and the car went BANG!!! when I shifted into drive, did it again when I shifted into reverse. Turned the car off and looked to make sure the tranny was still in the car and it was. restarted the car, turned over fine, hasn't given me a problem since. My mech said it had to relearn the new MAF because the old one was so effed up. |
Also, after re-reading your orignal post:
How cool are you now, after flying thru the school's parking lot and causing a few hundred dollars damage to your car? :rolleyes2: |

hence what i said, he deserved it.... why i dont drive more than five over.... most of the time the limit.... |
Shit happens. I know I've banged up a few cars but I only totalled one.

I didn't total this one, but I sure banged it up pretty good. Oh well its my fault completely and I deserve what ever problems I have with it, but it wasn't exactly problem free before I messed it up. I really hated it before my accident. I won't ever buy another Olds again. Too many bad experiences with this one... |
