alternator

well i swapped out my alternator and put another one in because it was squealing the belt.now that i have the other one in it is no better.any advice as to what it might be?sorry this is for a 2.4 not 2.2

Why did you think it was the alternator, out of all of the other pulleys? And why not replace the belt? Or try some anti-squeak spray on it?

tylerdelaney 03-26-2009 06:33 PM

it is a brand new belt and its when i turn up my stereo

tylerdelaney 03-26-2009 06:52 PM

would it be possible that it could be my battery because i dont even know old it might be

So what the eff is going on? Is the belt mechanically squealing or are you hearing "alternator whine" through your speakers?

Whine is almost always caused by a ground loop. (in my case it's caused by a supercharger)

cherrington17 03-26-2009 07:40 PM

loud squeel through your speakers is alternator whine. you have a bad ground somewhere.

tylerdelaney 03-26-2009 07:44 PM

no it is the belt i am 100% sure of that

cherrington17 03-26-2009 07:52 PM

the belt you'd hear outside the car... it would have ZERO impact on the volume of your speakers.

tylerdelaney 03-26-2009 07:58 PM

no it seems when i am taking alot of power from my battery it will start squealing.there is no whining sound through my speakers.my old belt never squealed and when it broke i had to drive home (5 miles) in the dark and since i put the new one on it has been doing it.(by the way i do have a little system installed)

cherrington17 03-26-2009 08:05 PM

your alternator won't make noise depending on drain.. it only supplies X amount of power. you can't draw more then it puts out.

and your battery won't make any noise at all.

and a "small system" won't drain enough power to do anything, other then kill your battery.

tylerdelaney 03-26-2009 08:09 PM

can it be my batt. or should i try the big 3 i just want to get it fixed so i dont get embarassed when i turn up my stereo

[ion] C2 03-26-2009 08:11 PM

i don't think you're reading anyone's posts

fix your botched wiring

cherrington17 03-26-2009 08:15 PM

so.... lets start from the top.

Your car squeels when you turn the volume up on your stereo. So you swapped your alternator, its still doing it, so you swapped it again.
When did the squeeling start?
What kind of "system" do you have? (aftermarket headunit, speakers?, subs?)
How is it wired?
Who installed it?

tylerdelaney 03-26-2009 08:47 PM

i broke my alternator belt the other night .i put a brand new one on and it squealed ever since.i changed the alternator today still squealing.i have a pioneer hu,1200 watt sony xplode amp,1 10"type r,1 10" infinity kappa perfect, and a 1 farad cap.i wired it myself.i have been doing so for 8 yrs now.

cherrington17 03-26-2009 09:27 PM

the belt would have absolutely NO impact on whats coming from your speakers. Putting a new one one, wouldn't make a damn bit of difference when you adjust the volume.

tylerdelaney 03-26-2009 10:29 PM

it is not coming from my speakers.it is from my belt.my belt squeals not a whine in my speakers.

tylerdelaney 03-26-2009 10:30 PM

it squeals when there is a load put on the alternator and when i first start my car.

Redog 03-26-2009 11:30 PM

Is it the right size belt?

For somebody that's been installing audio equipment in cars for 8 years should know that the belt is in no way connected to the speakers.

I know very little about car audio systems, and even I know that what you are asking really doesn't make sense.

Sorry, man

Ha, my fuel pump does that, sorta.....:)

CactusWill 03-26-2009 11:48 PM

How can you be convinced that it is your belt when you were convinced before that it was your alternator? Yet the belt is brand new?

Could be any one of the pulleys.
