Radio isn't working! What'd I break?
Probably screwed this up myself
I bought a GM GPS Radio for the Alero and I've been working on getting it set-up so that it wroked correctly I was almost there, but the problem was that the radio wouldn't power down at all with the key out and the door opened and shut (like gettting out of the car. The GPS radio doesn't use an ign wire, it uses a Serial Data Buss line, a VSS wire and a Constant 12 volt To slove the problem off not turning off, I hooked the battery wire on the one hardness, to the ign wire on the other buss. (My Alero uses a 32 pin and the GM GPS uses a 24 pin and a small 12 pin for the amp, which I don't have) All the lights came on, on the dash, SES, SVS, and Trac off and the car would not start, and the radio didn't work. So no problem I changed the wires back and now, no radio at all., not even the stock one. It lights up, but no clock and no power. Fuse is fine, gauge pod works also which is hooked into the radio hardness |
good job, you killed it.
![]() check all your fuses. you fried something. |
I figured it's a fuse but which one?
The one in the dash is fine. Is there another one? |
theres one on the driver's side panel, maybe 2.
maybe one under the hood? i can't say i've ever blown that one. get your manual and look! |
I looked at the one on the left side of the dash, it's fine, There's one on the right side which is hot at all times.
Would make sense that's the one that blew, I'll check it out |
That was it, the 10 amp on the pass side.
Gotta pick up more on the way to work, I don't have any mirco fuses :( |
even under the hood? i had a bunch of spares under there.
(fuses filling empty locations) |
sounds like you should just connect the ign wire on your car to the power for the aftermarket headunit, there should only be one line on the actual headunit that get a 12v constant and that is to keep a little juice in the head unit to allow the clock to continue to keep time and save your EQ settings, other then that you just need ignition power for the headunit.

The 12 pin is actually not used for an amp, but for other optional signals (VSS, XM, CD Changer, OnStar, reverse signal input, etc...) Quote:
You fail at comprehension on this one.... |
