Forced Induction

I have the 2.4 engine and I was thinking about putting a turbo or a supercharger in my car. My questions are which would be easier, which would better suit my car, and which would be cheaper?

kwhauck 04-17-2009 05:54 PM

with the 2.4 you can get a gm supercharger setup for like $1500 which is very reasonable and easy to install...

Tomahwk 04-17-2009 05:58 PM

Now with installing the supercharger is there any special fabrication that needs to be done?

kwhauck 04-17-2009 06:00 PM

shouldn't be, but ion can verify that....pretty sure its a bolt and boost setup.....

MP45 kit is bolt and boost.

Turbo isn't hard. It's getting more tempting every day... until I get my MP62 on..

Is there a difference in the HP gain I would see from a turbo compared to a supercharger? The MP45 you are talking about is going to run me about $1500 right? Where would I be able to obtain one of those?

I meant the supercharger, but thanks. Right now I am just gauging how difficult of a project it would be, and how much it would cost. So not really serious in buying anything right now.

He has an LD9 also, AleroB888.

The supercharger can be obtained through CrateEngineDepot or GMPartsDirect.

Oops, my bad, I didn't see you got the 2.4.....

You have to decide first whether you want the car to be street legal and pass emissions tests. If so, the M45 kit is the way to go. A turbo can make more power, but would have to sacrifice some potential to build the system around a legal CAT.

Yeah, in the future I will be going with the MP45 supercharger.

dont forget, you either need a GM performance shop or another performance shop that can flash the PCM to accept the 3 bar MAP sensor

you CANNOT drive the car with a 3 bar in without the flash, you can inch it to the place with the two bar map sensor, but you CANNOT boost or you will lean the mixture out, and have bad problems

[ion] C2 04-17-2009 10:03 PM

It's a 2 bar MAP sensor, and this is all covered in the installation manual.

Tomahwk 04-17-2009 10:14 PM

We have a few GM shops around California.
