Interior Mod

Hey Whiterider00
I m looking into doing something like your interior ( Black with the plastics painted White ) And i m wondering how you did all that and if it was expensive.
Did you need a special paint for the plastics and how did you get the rest black?? ( paint???)

AlbinoMonkeyRat 05-05-2009 11:29 AM

plastic parts: use Krylon Fusion
vinyl parts: use vinyl dye (you get what you pay for with this, too)

kevin1114 05-05-2009 12:21 PM

kool its as easy as that????

cherrington17 05-05-2009 03:29 PM

lightly sand first.

AlbinoMonkeyRat 05-05-2009 04:13 PM

^ true, prep is the hardest part. Sanding and washing.

is black vinyl expensive and is the difference of color originally gonna make a difference after dying???

Merlyn 05-23-2009 04:54 AM

Sorry to bring this back, I know I saw it somewhere but now I can't find it.
I've painted over all the pastic in the interior, and I really want to do something to all the Vinyl, ( must be black!).

I know everybody regrets painting their vinyl, but even in a couple of years if it chips, can't it be cleaned up and repainted? One weekend and 50$ should clean it up again.

I don't know ANYTHING about fiberglassing, and I don't really like it.
Re-doing the vinyl would be an option, has anyone tried that?
Or what about the vinyl dye? Does anyone on here have it, and it still looks decent? If so, what was your application procedure?

bizarre179 05-23-2009 12:51 PM

I dyed my vinyl all white with vinyl dye at auto zone. Its like $7 a can. You will probably need two cans. I needed more because white doesnt cover the darker vinyl very well, but I would imagine black would work the best.

For prep. work, I cleaned everything real good with alcohol. It came out just fine.

hey im wondering, does the vynil spray die work on the steering wheel aswell?

and how long do i need to set aside for this project, drying time/prep

Valley olds 05-23-2009 06:54 PM

The steering wheel is leather, so I dont think vynil dye will work on it very well.

Merlyn 05-24-2009 03:51 AM

Hey Bizarre, did that work with the carpet as well?

Caboose73 05-24-2009 07:22 AM

For the carpet go to http://www.stockinteriors.com/ thats were i got mine from its molded and you just have to cut out the slots for the seats and center shifter

Merlyn 05-24-2009 11:47 PM

Sweet, I'll check that out!

AleroDrime 05-25-2009 01:43 AM

if theres a good solution for the roof, seats, and steering wheel id redo my interior like next week

Caboose73 05-25-2009 03:40 PM

Easy wrap the headliner in what ever you want and buy new seats and steering wheel

I need to figure out how to get the dash apart, I'm going to either dye it this week, ( if that fails then it's time for re-upholstery )
But I'll need to know how to get the steering wheel and passenger airbags out without detonation....

disconnect the battery, and they can't.

I would disconnect the battery and the yellow airbag wires in the fuse panel in the sides of the dash.

cherrington17 05-26-2009 12:16 PM

if you disconnect the battery, there is no reason to disconnect anything else. no power means no power.

can't activate w/o the switch energized.

billytheman1188 05-26-2009 01:08 PM

MAKE SURE that you wait at least 5 min after disconnecting the battery to take the airbag out. there is a feature that keeps voltage going to them so if you get into an accident and your battery gets disconnected, the airbags will still work. so wait before pulling it out or you will have an airbag in the face, and be out about $500-600:lol:
