anyone have any pics with the legal limit tinting in NY. i know its pretty strict but i want to know how dark it is. see if its worth doing.

Youngblood77 07-01-2004 09:13 PM

That's one of my next mods, hopefully I'll get it done soon enough to post some pics before you have yours done. Cops around my area hardly ever messed with me when I had my old car though.....I just kept the windows rolled about 3/4 of the way down every time I saw them. The back 3 windows were 5%, fronts were 20%...plenty dark, I admit it was a real pain to see out back in the dark. Looked REALLY good though.

vulgar 07-01-2004 11:46 PM

cops are a PITA around southern NY. I got 20% all the way around.

AlbinoMonkeyRat 07-02-2004 09:51 AM

I thought legal in NY was 35%?

noodle 07-02-2004 10:53 AM

I did mine at 35%, yeah its not that dark but with a white car it looks ok. I've never been bothered by cops for it, even Amherst cops don't take a 2nd look

*goes to find wood to knock on*

freeze12 07-02-2004 12:10 PM

I have a black 01 alero & the front side's are 30% and the rear & back glass is 15% tint and have had no problems with the Police & I had the tint put on in 2/1/02

AlbinoMonkeyRat 07-02-2004 03:50 PM

Amherst cops ain't that bad...it's the Kenmore cops you have to worry about! lol

Youngblood77 07-02-2004 05:34 PM

Hey Freeze, could you post a pic? I got a black car, and I'm thinking that I gotta go as dark as I had before for it to look good.....I just don't want it to be a popo-magnet.

freeze12 07-02-2004 08:06 PM

Young....I have a black Alero also & the tint looks good as I had it done in Florida & the tint is made by LLuminar -w- lifetime warranty. I will try to post a pic. but do not expect much as I am a DUMMY @ posting pics. I live in Sloan a small village outside of Cheektowaga...hell, might as well call the village Cheektowaga!

No WAY ! I got a cousin that grew up in Sloan, 2 streets over from Harlem Rd, I forget the name of the street.....his name's Rick Doran. He moved out toward Batavia, but when we were younger we went out to his "old stomping grounds" to hang out from time to time. wow. what a small world it is.... B)

freeze12 07-03-2004 11:56 AM

Young... what a small worls as I live one street over from Harlem "Rutland Ave" and 2 streets over is Jackson!

Youngblood77 07-03-2004 12:02 PM

Is Jackson a dead-end street? I rememeber him living about 4 houses from the end of a dead-end street ( I think the street goes north-south, and the dead-end being @ the north end ) Damn that was a long time ago ( or atleast it seems )

spclone 07-03-2004 12:11 PM

4dr - the front doors no tint is allowed, the others dont matter, you can get as dark as you want. 2dr - the door windows cant have any, the others can be as dark as you want. i stopped at the troopers barracks and asked, i also got pulled over.

Youngblood77 07-03-2004 01:02 PM

sca-REW that....I'm still tinting my door windows, even if it's a few shades lighter, it would look WAY better than none at all. :P

Umm....i'm pretty sure the law is 30% front and 70% back B):

"NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law, Section 375, Subdivision 12-a

(d) The commissioner may test any window for a person who has been charged with violating this subdivision. If such window is found to be in conformity with this subdivision, a small label attesting to the conformity shall be affixed to the window tested.
(e) On and after January first, nineteen hundred ninety-two, no person shall manufacture, sell, offer for sale, equip or operate a motor vehicle in this state in violation of the provisions of this subdivision, except that a person may operate a nineteen hundred ninety-one or earlier model year vehicle without violating this subdivision if the windows on said vehicle were in conformity with this subdivision as it existed on December thirty-first, nineteen hundred ninety-one."

A little out of date, but you can find the updated official law.....there is a little leniency at least near where I live (Amherst)...i've seen people with around 10-20% tint on the windshields if that says anything

spclone 07-14-2004 11:01 PM

hate to tell you but the stock "tint" on our windows is 70% so, i guess that means none :P been through that with the cops already when i got pulled over.
