Fog Lights
 

So after I got my new headlight put in and new bulbs all around I noticed that my drivers side fog light wasn't working...upon closer inspection I saw that the lens is split right down the middle...I took it apart and the connector for the lamp is badly corroded...the old bulb was actually wet...
So I'm wondering if it would be worth it to find a stock fog light to replace it, or would this be a good opportunity to swap them out with something aftermarket...Is there such a thing as "plug-n-play" aftermarket fogs? I'm thinking some mesh down there would help protect them in the future, but I'm pretty open to advice at this point.

Replacements are cheap enough, check out your local junkyard or look on here.

same problem with my driver side fog... i just replaced the bulb for now if you colored the crack black it would look like a cats eye hahah

LOL too bad I couldn't get them to light up like a cat's eye too...hmmm maybe some sort of decal application...j/k...seriously tho, I don't see any reason why some mesh wouldn't protect the fogs...it's almost a no-brainer.

They're already recessed into the bumper cover. They get broken from running over curbs when the bumper cover flexes. Putting mesh over them might look nice, but it will only help keep scratches off them thats it.

I had the same problem with mine. I changed the bulb and actually put some super glue in the crack. It lasted until I got a replacement.

I can understand how they'd get broken in the circumstances in which you are describing, but it seems unlikely in my case since I've never hit a curb (or anything else) with my bumper...let alone hard enough to split a lens...you can pretty much see where the impact was...



The "how" doesn't even really matter anymore...all I know is that it needs to get replaced...hopefully this weekend.

In that case probably still had nothing to do with impact, it probably cracked from a combination of heat and age. Which a mesh can't really help lol

simple fix...find an uncracked foglight assembly...all your worries will go away or you can go the ghetto way I did until I got my new assembly...encase the exposed metal of the bulbs in silicone...may be shrewd but it worked

I've been thinking about this cause my foglights are in bad shape. I know it's ebay but there oem and I want something good quality, think these are worth it?

Holy crap man, the shipping on those is outrageous!!! You've gotta be able to find something cheaper than that out there.

Alot of reputable online suppliers offer free shipping, you just have to look around...I always consider finding the parts I need locally first before buying over the net...you might pay a little more, but you can examine the part before you buy it, and you don't have to worry about it getting wrecked during shipping. It's also not a horrible idea to try and support the local guy when you can...keeping him in business could pay off for you at some point down the road. Yellow Pages FTW.

Well you don't even want to know what the dealership wants and the junkyards are in as bad of condition as mine. I usually don't purchase stuff off the internet unless I have to or people here charge to much.

same thing happened to mine, I ended up replacing the fog light housings, bulbs and connectors. Still have a small issue with water getting inside the area where the bulb is.... don't know why...

I have an extra drivers side fog. $20 plus shipping and its yours.
