well i bought one w/o researching it on the thread.. didn't know it would cause some problems.. well.. im just thinking about putting it in.. my chimes come from driver's side so im guessing i have Class II thing.. so wen i install this i'll lose chimes and RAP.. i dun care about RAP.. when i turn the car off ill more than likely get out of the car.. (no need for radio).. but what is so bad about losing the chimes? i guess you can leave your headlights on.. (but there is the auto thing so i rarely turn the lights on manually).. you can look on the panel for low fuel.. what is so bad about losing the chimes?

A lot of people just personally like the chimes. Lets u know if u lokes ur car, if u left ur keys in the ignition and so on.

streetg1202 07-04-2004 03:38 PM

so its just mostly personal/security reasons right? nothing major?

alerosmoke 07-04-2004 06:52 PM

who needs chimes? :smokin:

Make sure you get either the relocation harness or one that simulates the databus, otherwise:
NO AIR BAG FOR YOU!

streetg1202 07-04-2004 07:08 PM

no air bag?! dang.. wuts the one that simulates the databus? so the airbag runs through the stero?

Oh, and nevermind b-spot's comment.....the airbags' wiring doesn't run through the stereo.

streetg1202 07-04-2004 08:11 PM

yea i read thru that.. but if i buy the relocation wire.. do i HAVE to keep the stock somewhere.. is there any way i can just use that wire to hook up the new unit and have the airbag?

Naw dude, you bunny with the databus and your bunnyin with your airbags. A local j-body guy had his go off while driving down the freeway cuz he didn't use a proper harness.

all you got to do is get an adaptor for the harness that way you dont mess with the factory crap.

smokinAMD 07-05-2004 02:51 AM

You may not have to worry about it with a 99. I didn't have to.

ImSoBored 07-05-2004 01:23 PM

i didn't have to worry about it for my 2000

streetg1202 07-05-2004 01:46 PM

hmmm.. well.. seems like it just depends on your car.. i'm going to take it to an audio shop and let them have a look-see..

leroBob 07-05-2004 01:48 PM

if ur car is a 99 u won't lose ur chimes gurantee it they changed to a different system after 99

streetg1202 07-05-2004 01:56 PM

yup.. its 03.. i dun mind losing the chimes that much.. but the airbag is what is getting to me.. i don't want it to go off in the middle of an interstate.. lol
