2004 stock stereo compatible in a 2000?
The tape/CD unit in my Alero's in an unsatisfactory position between "sometimes works" and "garbage," so I'm thinking of getting another GM unit to swap in (for aesthetics and because I've got plenty of tapes to use :coolio: ). Would a stock stereo from a 2004 Alero be compatible, size and wiring-wise, with my 2000?
The particular stereo is this eBay item. Any help's appreciated. Thanks! |
size, yea sure. but i think the 01+ wire differently, b\c the door chimes run through the speakers.. and it looks different than some 2000s that i have seen before.

gotta have the old style 99,00 model year stereo's

Would splicing the wiring work? Or is the wiring too dissimilar between the two models? |
it would be easier to just get an aftermarket stereo. look on your local craigslist. they are always mad cheap
|
it would be easiest to get an aftermarket deck. they still make some with tape players if thats really a selling point for you.
|
well, they make them with tape, and then a CD changer that goes in the trunk, i would go for that..,

I think I'm just gonna grab a like stereo to my own. I want to stick to the stock since it has tape and CD in the same unit. Thanks for the advice anyway, guys. :)

i have one out of my 99 at home, but i don't remember if it has a tpe player in it or not. i only used it for 5 days after i bought the car then i swapped for aftermarket.

Yeah, you can convert to the 24 pin connection and add the Class 2 data bus wire. Redog did it. |
