outer tie rod end
So I am replacing the outer tie rod ends because the one on the passenger has a torn boot and lots of play. It has probably been bad for a while because the tire it more worn than the rest.
The outer tie rod end is being a real pita. I can't break it loose from the inner one. Any suggestions? Should I buy a torch and heat it up? |
try liquid wrench on it let it sit for a little while and if the does not do it get a torch and heat it up

I sprayed deep creep on it. It's been siting there for a good 30 min or so. I'll heat it up if it doesn't budge this time.
Thanks! |
Heating it up should do (as long as you do it right), but penetrating oil needs more than 30 min on tough rust. I would have whacked on it with a hammer a few times, sprayed it again, then let it soak for another hour or two.

The deep creep did the trick. I love that stuff, it has helped me so many times. It is a little colder too which may have made it harder. I didn't want to hit it with a hammer because I didn't want to damage the inner tie rod.

lol then u shoulda used a cutoff wheel then the inner would have been perfect lol just kidding happy u got it off

It turns out both were bad. The drivers side boot was torn but wasn't visible until it was removed.
|
did you get the other off pretty easy?
|
Yes, the other one was a lot easier. It only took about 10 min to change if that. I do need an alignment.

kool glad you got it fixed and back on the road, :)
