Well I finally came across a chance to upgrade my sound in the car for better. I had a old Pioneer deck for a year now and now looking to upgrade. My father in law just paid me back for the money he owed me with a mini sound system. So I got a box with a JL Audio sub, Pioneer amp and a new Pioneer deck. The sub is (I think) 8", I can't really tell as they all look same and it's built in the box so I can't check the power. As far as I can tell it's the JL AUDIO 8W3V2 sub - 125W ? Anyway the amp is Pioneer GM-3100T - 300W. The deck is Pioneer DEH-P6800MP. I am planning to wire the stuffs tomorrow, but have some questions to who ever can help (I guess mostly Ryan from Ohio, as I see that he has a great knowledge in audio equipment). If I run the sub with the stock rear speakers is it gonna be ok or am I gonna suffer a great sound quality loss. I hava a pair of Pioneer 6x9s ready to install, but they are 120W each and can't be powered up until I get another amp. Now to the questions. I never wired subs and amps so it will be my first time. But everyone learns at one point. So for the amp my q. is - where do I run the power wire to ? The battery itself or the deck? Also what is the best way to run wires from the trunk to the deck ? under the carpet ? Another stuff seems pretty straight forward - deck is easy with the harness, then Amp to the deck through the remote connection, amp to ground and amp to sub. Is that correct? I hope I got it figured out right.

you run a large fused wire from your battery to the amp, ground the amp to bare metal in the trunk, run a remote turn on wire from your head unit to the amp and then just your regular connections from the amp to the actual sub, nothing crazy.
you would use this same setup for wiring another amp for your highs

Thanks Ttop and Gr1m, pretty much what I thought, I just wanted to make sure it's right before I screw something up.
Seems easy, I'll let you know how it went after, gotta love Canada - installing subs in -20 winter weather :D

do you have a garage and use good quality wiring kit I learned the hard way.

BTW - Your 6x9s WILL work fine right now! Just swap out the factory junk. The 150w is the maximum safe power they can handle and has nothing to do with normal volume levels. Odds are that they will be louder (and cleaner sounding) than the OEM speakers no matter what. Only if you hear distortion during loud passages will you 'need' more speaker power.

Also, once the sub is working you should be able to filter the lows out of the regular speakers which will allow the mids and highs to get louder still...

if you need some more help, let me know, i have tuesday and wednesday off work, for a bit of gas money, i could come down and help you out... unless you want to venture up this way to work on it...

So I wired the deck, took me pretty much whole sunday to do (thanks to family come over unexpected). Works perfect now, matches my blue leds nicely. Yes, I did use good quality wiring kit, did in a home garage. Now I have to wire that sub and amp. What's the best spot to run the wires from the trunk to deck and battery ? Under the carpet ?

Thanks, if I fail at wiring sub and amp, I'll let you know. I'm in Mississauga so a bit of a trip to Lindsay, but a nice little Alero meet to wire speakers would be nice!

I have to wait till sunday to wire it though. Working all day everyday this week (as always)...

Haha well if you think of the income after rent/bills/gas/food/baby stuff etc etc then it's average. Plus I'm saving up for a new VDub. But I love my job, get to work with cars everyday.
Btw. the Alero is soon to be a project car, as I am switching to a different daily car :P :D
