Gas gauge

So a couple of months ago when I started my car the needle on the gas gauge somehow went above the little tick at the top and has been stuck there ever sense. Any ideas on how to fix it??

sounds like sending unit is dead...

AndyT3 01-23-2010 08:19 PM

Yeah, I would second Nate on that one....

Nate's Alero 01-23-2010 09:06 PM

wait, the little retainer at the top! oh! listen, remove the bezel, remove the cluster, remove the glass (about 12 clips) and Just pop the needle down below it

take the gauge out, pull the needle off, put needle back on. fill the tank, readjust the needle so its on "Full" reassemble gauges.

Yep you have what happen to me the sending unit failed, and you have to replace the whole thing , drop the tank and drop in a new unit ..If your having some else do it , It will take a day to do it.

And hour for you what are superman??? BULL!

It took me 3 hrs using jack stans and that pull it out and reastall the tank.

In the book it a 4.5 hours for and alero tank removal and restall...that having a lift and trans jack to pull the tank down.

I've done a tank job (fuel pumps) so :coolio: many time i lost count.

jayson_waltz 01-24-2010 02:30 PM

^well, yea i guess with jackstand it would take longer. I used a lift with a trans jack to lower/raise the tank. Also my dad helped, and he had just done one earlier that day. it went quick

baristawitalero 01-24-2010 07:56 PM

If you drove down to my house i'd do it, for a price :p

Gr1m 01-27-2010 10:38 AM

if you have access to a lift its like a 1.5 hour job, nothing major besides dropping the tank, its easier if you do it on a low tank because then its less weight to drop and less chance of you spilling any gas
