Leaks Leaks Leaks!

2000 GL 4dr

I pulled out the spare and found a mush of gunk and water in the hole at the bottom. I pulled all the carpet out of the trunk to see if I could tell where it was coming from. It seems it may be coming from somewhere by the fender on the side, but I noticed as well that when I put the back seats down I could also see some droplets directly on the metal pillar that seperates the seats from the trunk on the sides. I checked the trunk weatherstripping and it seems to be in tact. Could this leak be coming from the bottom rather than top, like through one of those seals I see on the trunk floor?

Also, while I got you here, I've got a wet spot on my floor under and behind the passenger seat. I read somewhere here about water coming in from the bottom of the windsheild and drains into the floorbed, is that accurate? It would be hard to tell if this is the problem because I just had my windsheild replaced and assume it wouldnt leak now anyway.

Thanks all!

i have the trunk issue as well, i just punched a hole in the bottom with a chisel.. and the pass floor is a leak in the cowl, it's a TSB and the kit to fix is about 12$

Wouldn't that let water from the underside come up into the bay then? And I assume the cowl is up front...whats a TSB and where might I buy one for $12? Thanks Nate!

np, the cowl thing is that the little vent whrre the wipers are, water leaks in through that, someone should have the Dealer PN for the foam thing... lol

Yes, I went through the exact same issue. Thankfully my father works at a Chevy dealership and had access to SI and the parts. Let me pull the service receipts and get the numbers.

The GM part number for the foam strip is 22680817 and it lists for $6.27. You can have that special ordered from your local GM dealership. Also the GM TSB number is 01-08-57-003 which is just a document that tells the technician what parts to order and how to install them.

So what happens is that water gets under that black piece of plastic that your windshield wipers sit on and under that big black peice is the opening for your blower motor. Water gets into that opening and ends up on your front floors. (Thats the short of it anyway)

Or it could be the sealing strips along the bottom of your door jambs, but the cowl leak is far more common.

Thanks very much!

Seems like a lot of ridiculous little things are wrong with these cars, moreso than pretty much all I've owned before. I wonder why so shotty in some aspects, Oldsmobiles had been around forever and seemed to always be a well repsected company....hell I know people who are still driving their old 98s!
