LED ( Yeah again )

I bought some prewired LED'S , I plan to put some in the rear speaker area to illuminate them and as I saw that the wire of each LED are just 1meter long , I dont know where to tap power from , I thought taking power from my SUB amplifier located in my trunk , If i plug the ground to the ground of my amplifier and the positive to the remote wire, would it work ? And would it stop lightning when i shut the motor down ? , I also plan to put the same kind of LED'S in the pocket over the mirror in front, But where should I take power there also ? ,

Also I bought some LED'S in plastic cap ( Canadian tire ) , Where should I tap power from ? , I will probally put them under seat.

Thanks for the help !

P.S : I will upload picture from my car after this job ! , (: , Im new here ! ( First post ) And im from Quebec so I speak french , tell me what you think about my english ! (:

Je ne parles pas de bon Francais, but who knows maybe I will understand some of what you say since I have taken a few French lessons in the past. Your english isn't bad either. Anyway bienvenue to the site.

Hey thanks everyone ! :)

P.S : Does anybody have any answer to my questions ? :P , I can't wait until showing off my Alero and finishing wiring these led's.

PM Cherrington17 he is like...God if God had LEDs for eyes, and a red and blue glow behind him...

PappaSmurf 02-21-2010 05:07 AM

MyK,
To answer your questions;
1) YES, tapping into the amplifier will be fine as long as you run it the way you stated. Power of the LEDS to the Remote and ground to ground. They will turn off when the amp turns off

2) For the pocket over the mirror, I plan on tapping into the dome light, that way it only comes on when the doors are open. If you want you could tap into the radio or the fuse box and run wires all through the weather stripping and then into under the head liner.

3) Dont put them under the seat, rather put them under the dash (as I did) less wire running and stays out of your way while trying to vacuum under the seats.

P.S. Your english is good

don't listen to smurf. NEVER power anything off your remote wire. if you want it to turn on at the same time, use a relay. (electronic switch). Remote wires are for the amp, and the amp only.

Beyond that, everything else he said is legit.

I think the IOC and Quebec would approve of the amount of french in this tread...... :emotlol:

Welcome to the site man!!

Yeah, don't listen to me as I was the only one that answered the questions you asked.

I have ran two 9" LED strips AND two 12" neon light bars off of the remote turn on from my amp and not had a single problem. I am also positive that I am NOT the only one that has done this nor will I be the last.

Its always good practice to use a relay on something that is expecting a certain amount of power to kick itself on. LEDs draw very little power so it's not going to be a big deal, however it is still a good idea to use a relay.

Kazumaki 02-22-2010 12:23 AM

sorry smurf, normally i agree with ya, but in this case, i can't suggest people do the same.

it would be like having ion give advice as to how to run the power wire into the cabin. sure, it'll get there... but is it the right way?

AleroDrime 02-22-2010 08:13 AM

im sideing , just tap somewhere in the front, and run a wire back, im about to do this for my trunk leds, so they can be on with my floors if i have the seats down
