tint on rear window

all of my wondows i have tinted myself. only thing that worries and bothers me is the rear window. i know my defroster on the back went out so i dont care bout that but i know the lines may cause air bubbles? has anyone tinted the rear window without cuttin the tint in strips to get it on there

cherrington17 03-08-2010 07:35 PM

didn't do it myself... but mine is done. no bubbles.

i did 4 of my windows less than 45 mins just the back window is quite large. do you see any line as if it has been cut in half or anything?

Just tint over the lines. thats the way shops do it. then you will only have to have one seam to hide instead of tons. and it will look better from the inside. just be careful to not nick the lines with your razor blade.

thats the thing i hit that line then my radio will screw up

Tinted all the windows myself, and the rear was a true b!tch. I ordered a pre-cut set from eBay, and all was cool and perfectly aligned for the side windows. When it came to the back it was also perfectly cut, but not considering the curvness. And it didn't have holes for the defroster things on the sides. The tint came already divided in half to make it easier. Took me good 3 hours to do it properly. But yeah, I put tint over defroster lines, and is a year now, and defroster works great, and no bubbles showing.

^yea tinting isn't difficult at all. All it takes time, patience, and a friend to help hold the tint is useful.

what is the best tint % for rear window the tint laws in ohio the front sides cant be more then 50% but the rest can be as dark as you want. im getting the small ones like 5% and the two front 35% because thats all the shop has that high, but i want the rear one to be dark so people cant see in but so i can see out at night if i need to back up

jayson_waltz 03-09-2010 02:46 AM

5% is popular. I've been in a few with it. you can't see in but you can still see half decent backing up. go with that and 35% up front if you want to minimize getting pulled over.

I hated my 5%.. it is okay during the day, but at night... good luck!

i got a precut for the back window from notherntint.com man cheap precuts and high quality. only problem is i didnt have a heat gun so i have 'fingers' around the outside edges. i think it adds to the gutted interior/murdered look
