4T45e vs 4T40

My transmission died, conventer was damaged and plates in trans are burned, problem with engine temperature and RPM problem last time, everything - conventer, right now i know it. New radiator, pump, thermostat, belt, tensioner - everything waist of money.... but is new, will work couple years.

Here rebuild costs about $1500-1800, in max two months time i can have all parts from USA, rebuilded conventer, and all plates, gaskets etc.

here is my question, i have complete trans 4T40 with conventer, can i put it in to my car for 2 months? in this tme i will receive parts and repair my trans...

I know that 4t40 is weaker then 4t45e, but only for max 2 months

Tomek

The 4T40E is known to be the stronger of the two automatic transmissions. GM screwed up the 45 somehow.

i think that i have 4T40 (2,4 99) not 4T40E, tommorow will check

Im curious what the differences are between the 4t40e and the 4t45e.

PM sent. It will fit, the only difficulty you should have is if it's from a different kind of car, it may have a different gear ratio so may cause some weird stuff in your computer.

Oh, so he does have a 4T40E stock then... he just said he has a 1999 with the 2.4L.

BlackJack 04-11-2010 08:19 PM

well, no, my understanding is that he has the V6/'45, and his tranny died. I think he means he has a replacement '40 from a 99 model that had a 2.4 and wants to know if that '40 can get him by for a little bit as a replacement for the '45?

*facepalm* Woops he posted in the 3400 V6 section, nevermind lol.

It's all good man, I'd feel worse about it if nobody replied at all :)

Unless the 4T40 came off of a cavalier with a 2200 it will not fit... the 2,4 has a different bolt pattern than the 3400.

tomekbrek 04-12-2010 03:57 AM

I have a trans from alero 2,4 99 in my garrage, is without any label on....
My car is alero 3,4 99... tommorow engine will go away and will see, if bolt pattern are different, i will change only conventer, plates burned but a car driving...

here is problem with usa cars, trans i can buy used for min $600 but i do not know, maybe has 30k maybe 300k, and next month labor again, parts to rebuild will have about in half of may.

I have a lot of parts new in my car, whole cooling system, A/C system, two weeks ago whole suspension etc, trans i would like to have with new parts in too, it is more expensive car then new in dealer in 99 :)

tomekbrek 06-28-2010 11:47 AM

Trans are a different, can not change it. another mounts holes for screws, and electric starter is in another place, it would not fit.
I have to order O-H kit, which one is the best?
