My $200 Alero

It's a 2001 Alero with the 2.4L. The reason I got it so cheap is the motor is pretty well shot (hard knocking with metal in the oil). Other than that the car is in perfect shape.

There doesn't seem to be many alero's in the wrecking yards around here, would a 2.4 out of a grand am or malibu drop in?

I'll have more pics once I get her cleaned up :)

yea i think you could.. im pretty sure someone on here has done it

Paul.C 05-18-2010 01:44 PM

ya it would but i have found NEW toy that you could do to a 3.4. if u feel like making your 3.4 custom with a 5 speed then you could get a drivetrain and tranny from a wrecked soltice or sky apparently they are same bolt patern and every thing.

Nate's Alero 05-18-2010 01:58 PM

yeah. any barebone 2.4 will work.

Too bad your not in MA, I would have gave you my engine for $400

Yeah so far i've found a few cheap 2.2's around here..i might think about swapping one of those if it's not too huge of a hassle lol

domscox 05-18-2010 04:49 PM

I did a 2.2 engine and trans from a 2005 Cavy. Everything worked but had to swap the injectors.

Other than programing, yeah I'd do that :D

*sigh* if only you had the 3400

(looking for one to tear down)

seniorpaco 05-18-2010 05:52 PM

besides the engine/tranny/computer, what else would I need to put the 2.2 in?

Around here, Crazy Ray's (a U-pull-it junkyard) is advertising that they will pay $300 for any complete car, so for $200 you got it for less than what the junkyard pays! Such a deal. Still that's $200 more than I paid for mine.

Anyway, I would imagine that a 2.4L from 2001 from any GM vehicle would work, but do more research before you buy anything since I have the V6 and know little about any of the 4 cylinder variants of this car.

How many miles are on the car?

seniorpaco 05-19-2010 03:28 PM

around 147k I don't remember exactly. i've found a few 2.4's in pull apart for $100 for a long block so i'm going to buy one from a grand am.

mod the crap outta it... and finally someone will FORCE nate to shut up about his heap.
