Need some help with my radio
2000 Oldsmobile Alero 4dr 2.4l
ok 2 probs so gonna make this short...first pulled out factory deck, replaced with a Dual xd1222 HU, i ended up breaking the antenna adapter that came with it, so i bought a universal adapter, now the problem is, if i plug the factory deck back in, i have fm and am radio signal, if i plug the aftermarket one back in *(unplugging batt during switch) i get am/fm signal for the first time the car is on, then if i shut the car off and turn it back on the signal is completely gone and stays gone till i put old deck back in any ideas wat is causing this? or how i can fix/bypass it. 2nd, sound from the Dual HU was kinda low(60w).. so i grabbed a small 4ch 500w amp, the dual has only 2 rca outputs on the back so i had to put both front speakers on ch1 and both back speakers on ch2, sounded fine, slight pops if i turned it up too loud but that seemed normal, quality was fine tho... Decided to get a Scosche Fai3A 4-channel Speaker hi low line Converter after following all the directions on that thing and getting it all hooked up, now i get a sound coming from my speakers when HU is on sounds kinda whistling that speeds up/slows down as the car does or as i hit the gas pedal, not sure what it is, sounds like a funny turbo tho LMAO anyways, any ideas on fixing that would be great... got a decent audio upgrade being ground shipped right now, so i wanna tackle these 2 probs b4 it gets here any help would be appreciated... thanx |
ok, went thru a few posts, seems like theres an antenna booster wire or somethin that needs to be hooked up...ive looked thru the haynes wiring diagrams, and im either blind or dumb because i can not find this wire lol.. will be looking into it...

Hi, lonnie, first off, thank you, however after my post, i had ripped the car apart again, and had followed the antenna power line all the way from the module, down thru the sides, up into the fuse panel, to the other side of the fuse panel, through the dash, to the harness, to the scosche harness to my, in the end i ended up just splicing it into my remote turnon im using for the amp... for those that are wondering in mine the amp power is Dark Green, and on the harness, clip side up, its is bottom row third from left i believe, anyways, it ended up being an unmarked blue wire coming out of the harness. so end of all that, RADIO is working so my first issue is SOLVED.
2nd issue update(the whining noise) still going on, so now that everything is powered on, i re-grounded the line output converter or wth it is, to the bolt under the center panel that didnt help a bit, i seen somethin somewhere saying that you should back off the converters gain if you start getting interference, havent tried that, i just know they are all the way up so imma try that while im throwin everything back in the car LOL... pics to come soon :D |
Glad you got it fixed!
And Welcome to the Site! |
well i jumped the gun on that one i guess.. problem still not solved... will check the wiring later, but at least i know which wires they are.. hands are all cutup from the stupid dash kit lol... also still cant figure out whining noise, doesnt happen in acc, only when engine is running, and hu turned on, volume doesnt affect it tho, oh well, will work more on it tomorrow lol

Well to start for the RCA's that come out of the back of the HU to the amp, use a RCA Y splitter so you can use all 4 channels on your amp, that way you're not stressing your amp on the OHM load.
Did you run your RCA's on the same side of the car as your power wire? Where did you ground your amp? Do you have any part of the power wire or ground wire coiled up? How does the ground from your battery to the cars body look? The best thing to ground to inside the trunk is on the strut bolt where you can take the nut off, providing that you clean all the paint off. |
I didnt go with the rca y splitter because i wanted to be able to have full eq functionality as far as front back left right, seems my car sounds alot nicer when you bias it +1 to the rear and +1 to the passenger side...also, my new sub and amp should be here on the 15th so i was going to use the HU rca outputs to go to the amp for the sub which is why i have use the output converter... its about 1:30 am but i will go take pics here in a sec of the setup so far...the wires are a bit messy.. wasnt going to conceal the wires until the new stuff got here no point in hiding it all if i have to rip it back up again in a week :D

Nothing looks nice right now because i have everything kinda exposed for easy access till i put in the rest LOL
ok, this is the converter unit... ![]() Seems the problem is not isolated between any of the rcas, not bad cables, just when all 4 cables are plugged in the whining is there, i unlpug 2 of them and it stops, doesnt matter front or back, seems like the issue might be the converter itself :( And this is where the ground for the converter is at [IMGhttp://i829.photobucket.com/albums/zz219/notomorrow420/0612100217b.jpg[/IMG] and heres where i mounted the cheap-o amp ![]() And this is where it is grounded at behind the back seats ![]() And Since im not currently using this and its tucked behind the dash, i was thinking about running the Antenna power lead to it instead of spliced in with the remote wire for my amp, because i still have a radio problem lol ![]() |
That HU puts out 15x4 PEAK, they don't even list the RMS, so RMS would be around 5w x4, NO WAY IN HELL would I trust a inline converter with that HU.
Go buy a real HU, like a pioneer with 3 pre outs (front, back, and sub). Look at it this way, I would rather wait all year to save up the money I need to build a good system then just getting it all out of the way all at once and being unhappy with what I have. That 12v acc port that you want to wire random things to is always hot, don't do it. |
thats what i figured started lookin at new ones earlier this morn.. well it will be about 2 weeks b4 i can afford a new hu so i will bear with the probs for now...
