Intermittent Vibration
My car shakes. Normally between 45 and 53. Usually gone at 55. Its never done it below 45. It started with the new rims. I got them balanced and aligned, and it was fine, for a while. Now its sporatic. While cuising it'll start and stop on the same smooth stretch of highway..
Ideas? |
See if you have the hub rings for the aftermarket wheels.

Hub rings?
The find did have rubber spacers in them... but they wouldn't fit with them in, so I removed them. |
try rebalancing, just because they were balanced doesn't mean it was done right.
try road force balancing ( the only true balancing out there ) I believe in if its not road forced balanced its not truely balanced at all. and if it keeps up then its possibly your tires after it has been road forced balanced. ( I work at a dealership in the garage and see this happen at least twice a month ) |
They are plastic...aftermarket wheels comes with bigger bore to fit all vehicles, but you need you certain size to compensate. Seems like it had it before but obviously the guy that owned them before you didnt have same car, so they didnt fit.

I like both suggetion given but I would check the hub rings first as the cheaper alternative.I know you took some out but maybe they were too wide and you just need smaller ones. I would check that first and then go the rebalancing route.

the link I gave ya should be right... Stock n-bodies are 70.3 stock size... after market wheels are 73.something...I wish I knew a more legit site to order from, I was trying tirerack but I couldnt find them seperately. To be more accurate get the model of the wheels, check online. Check local wheel places, they will have em but sometimes they are bitches to sell em lol.

the ones they had in the tire, spaced the tire out too far. the lugs were a bitch to tighten properly, and the wheels had horrible grinding noises (weren't flush to the hub)
so... these won't do that, again? :lol: and those rings are a set of 4? |
Well.. seems like you(previous owner I should say lol) had spacers which is a different thing. Hub rings are just for the centerbore, to make it fit perfect on our hub without moving while you tighten the lugs, they will seat flush and wont stick nothing out. If your wheels right now are good than it should be good. From what you were sayin I hope you didnt stretched few of those lugs nuts, lucky you didnt lose the whole wheel off.

Vic, you da man! got the rings today, put them in, test drove and its perfect. (except for a slightly list to the right)
but that vibration is gone. :yahoo: |
