general pad and rotor troubleshoot
girlfriends car is a 2000 ford taurus. brakes are almost like brand new. yet when i brake they squeel just like it would if pads were worn. rotors feel smooth. makes no sense. what could cause that squeel if the rotors and pads have plenty of life on them and car brakes fine but squeels loud when brake applied? deffinantly coming from the front.
harmonic vibration. rotors are smooth, but are they glazed? do the pads have anti vibration shims?
wow my spelling sucks sorry i was in a rush, they didnt look glazed i dont think they have anti vibration shims either. glazed they would be really shiny and straky right?
they would look almost clear coat painted. you can go to an auto parts store and get some anti squeal, its like a high temp silicone designed specifically for squealing brakes. you'll have to disassemble the brakes to spread it on the pad. (steel surface against the caliper only, not on the rotor side)
thanks ill try that out :)
yep, brake quiet works wonders. Did it on my girl's 08 g6.
had that issue when I used them on my cross drilled and slotted.....after 1k of driving it went away thankfully lol I didnt feel like taking it back off even tho its easy I just never felt like doing so lol
how would that cause a squeel though i can see the caliper hitting the back of the pad causing a squeel
Are the pad defective?
I put on new brakes and in 6 months one side was worn down to NOTHING! and the caliper wasn't hung up |
hmm im going to tear them apart but at first glance both pads and rotor are thick real thick and car brakes well just squeels and slight slight shmmy when braked hard
