tranny question

first off. this will be hard to explain, so bear with me. *5-speed*

when my car is in motion, and i let off the gas, it seems to rock back and forth. it does this on flat land in first and second.

when i let off the gas going down a hill (or cruise controll letting off when gaining speed) the car does the rocking thing too. now this is in 5th gear with no shifting.

when i take off from a dead stop, i'm slowly letting the clutch up, and i hear this clunk noise and clutch is engaged. not a nice slow process.

now these don't happen all the time. just sometimes (usually the rocking does happen though)

my thoughts for that is either some slop in my axles (or something to that degree) or perhaps my mounts letting the motor move back and forth?

maybe the motor mounts... mine were shot on my ld9 the front and rear tranny mount to be exact...

well if thats all that it is, i'll get working on those right away, i have my new motor mount, just work has been too packed to install it.

you dont think it's anything internal? i thought it could be the motor and tranny rocking back and forth.

also, i've been looking at tranny swaps, seems nothing is just bolt on with new axles or anything. so whats the easiest way to change my gear ratio. i mostly want to be cruising down the highway around 2000rpm and going 110km around 2100-2200

guiguilandry 08-11-2010 07:06 PM

get another ratio 5th gear set... or another differential.... both are costly and involve taking apart and rebuilding the tranny... but i wouldn't change the ratio of the differential if it was just me because if affect all the other gears... cars are built in a manner to put the most power on the ground at certain rpm through the drivetrain in each gear... i didn't changed mine in my 3800 one... maybe I should because right now i don't use the first speed at all... never... it's too fast for me to be able to react and shift without hitting the redline

well in the next few month, the tranny is going to have to come out for a rebuild, and a clutch. so if it's only a little more to have 5th gear a little lower, thats ok with me. or i might just get a low km transmission.

anyways, i installed my new motor mount, and all i can say is wow, old mount was destroyed. i can already tell the difference. next is the tranny mount.

how hard is it to change?

Vic28 08-12-2010 12:28 AM

Not too bad for the front one, the rear on its easier, but you obviously need access to the bottom of the car. I have solid ones, just havent had a chance to install them, maybe next week that hopefully im on vacation. BTW stock ones are fkn rediculous in price...

what do i need to order vic. i have a lighted pit i can park my car on to get underneath and work on it.

changing the motor mount made things better, but i think i can still feel some movement, so i really want the tranny ones done now

Ill let ya know how it goes, than put the links... those will really help. I know what you feal with the rocking of the motor, Im there myself.
