My rims, Eagle 185's polished clearcoated aluminum, there is one thing I don't like about them, the inside of the rim is clearcoated grey primer ( I'm guessing ) and I can't stand it, So, I was considering painting them, My accent color is blue, under the hood and soon brake calipers and rotors, now, do you think that painting the inside of the rims blue to match the calipers would be to much, and if I decide on this, do I need any type of special paint, and what would be the best way to prep them? I would rather hve them fully polished inside and out but there is nobody in this town that does it?

Outside of rim, will the blue just be to much, or will accent right?

Aleromaster 08-07-2004 10:02 PM

I would think thatpowdercoating the inside wouldlook good.

jabartram 08-07-2004 10:04 PM

Powder coating them blue? I'm just worried about overdoing the blue color?

bdyman 08-07-2004 10:40 PM

my advice is powder coat them why?? because it is more durable, and it will last the time of the car
you can paint chrome yes but from experience there are always problems with the base coat lifting or wrinkling up
powder coat!!!

your right! I think the blue in the rims may just be a little to much but it may give you a real original look. hay what kind of rims are those I like them a lot?

jabartram 08-07-2004 11:15 PM

they're not chrome, they are polished aluminum with clear coat, and the backside is just grey? and the grey is the part I dont like, so i'm not painting chrome, i'll have to sand off the primer in the backside to paint or powdercoat them.

Thats a lot of blue, gunmetal or black might look better.

jabartram 08-07-2004 11:38 PM

this is a quick photoshop job and the wrong shade of blue, but, it may give a better idea of what i'm considering?

Think it looks good man

misslindseysue 08-08-2004 12:49 AM

That would look cool. It'd drive me crazy though, 'cause I'd want to have it clean. You can't even tell what color the inside of my rims are 'cause of all the grime. I don't mind, it just blends in that way. But not as much of mine is exposed, with 9 spokes.
You could always polish them yourself if you have a lot of time and a dremel on your hands. ;)

jabartram 08-08-2004 12:54 AM

Polishing was a consideration, but I'd have to sand off the inside clearcoat, and then buff and polish forever, and keeping that much polished area clean would probably drive me crazy, I'm so anal about my car being polished now, I would probably have to just stop driving it, at least the blue would hide any blemishes better?

Oldsmopimp 08-08-2004 01:05 AM

I think it will look good blue. No overkill, it would be cool. Your lucky those eagles are open enuff to get your hand in there to wash the inside and keep it clean. But yes, powdercoat for sure.

And as far as blemishes....any dings dents or scratches WILL be noticable when painted/PC. More-so than with it primed(the way they stand now) Keep in mind it will draw peoples attention to the inside of the wheel, so....if they are rough you may want to scrap that idea.

jabartram 08-08-2004 01:24 AM

No, they are in excellent condition, I just don't like the dull primer, and I'm tryin to come up with idea's?

bigd6983 08-08-2004 01:48 AM

I think it would look good, even more so while the cars moving, try one rim, sit on it, see if you like it..........if all it is is a primer you can always go back.......but thumbs up from me, you cant see the whole inside of the rim at all times so it wont be an overkill...........go for it......

alerosport.com 08-23-2004 05:15 PM

I would do a shiny black... if that can be done... or just black that way you wont have to keep if clean if it was blue you wouldn't want it dirty with brake dust and what not

justinusaf 08-23-2004 05:49 PM

The photoshopped pic looks HOT. Thats a really good idea.
