Build Log LOTS OF PICS!

So this will be my first ever build log. Some of it is from last summer, some from earlier this year, and it concludes with what I just got done with in the last 24 hours. Enjoy!

Warning: I tend to forget to break out the camera all of the time, so there will be some steps missing and a few jumps. I just get into it to much that it is hard to remember to stop. lol

First, my beast came in:

Old 15" compared to new:

First box attempt, an inch to big in every direction for the trunk. (oops)

Let's try this again:

Test fitting:

Girlfriend at the time in box:

Painting, some texture spray with some orange gloss to give it sort of a bed liner appearance...

My 2/0 weldingsupply cable came in!

Running some wires:

Afugy this gorund's for you!

This is why you buy ring terminals with 3/8" openings, not 5/16"... lol

All connections soldered. The hard way, with an iron. lol

Sub mounted and box in!

Tried to "pretty up" the trunk:

A video of her playing:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dg1N9fL_Hq0

Next, I rebuilt the box a bit as I went from 1.5k to 3k rms. The subwoofer was unloading a bit too easily so I went from 4.2ft^3 @ 34Hz to 3.0ft^ @ 32Hz.

Only picture I have is when I started sealing the port part of the box off into the cabin:

Here's a wiper flex video with this setup, being my most recent until today:

Now, time for some improved vocals!
Rockford Fosgate T152-S and Rockford Fosgate T1693

Hifonics HFi100.4

Old Kenwoods vs New Fosgates:

Tweeter installation into sail panels:

Tighter fit than I though!

Then I found out that our doors don't necessarily like larger baskets from some beefy 5.25"s...

Installed:

Knukoncepts RCA's!

Everything installed, sealed off, and amplifiers mounted on back seats:

Now time for some cosmetics. ;)
Headlights!

Now, back to audio! This is what I have spent the last entire day doing. I don't often get much free time, let alone do I live an hour and a half from home at college, so It's not like I can run to the garage after school. When I need to get stuff done, I get it done. My friend Jared got to my house at 9:00 am, he left at 12:00 pm, and I finally closed the trunk the following morning at 8:00 am. The soreness was terrible. All over... But it was worth it. :)

It all starts with some wood:

(*Tip, I had Lowes cut my wood 1" too big each way for me to run over at home and MAKE SURE it was accurate. I have had them eff it up one too many times.)

Had my buddy tearing out the old tape while I finalized some measurements and cuts:

Got everything torn out and wires re-directed to the trunk!

Nice little mess.

The source of our energy next to the beast!

And one next to my new secret weapon! ;)

Some things laid out:

Cashdollar2009 11-23-2010 07:47 AM

Assembly process begins while batteries are on charger:
Had my boy getting his hands dirty with the sand paper. lol

Brass bolt terminals FTW!

Hmmm... How to fit 18" of port into 19" of box???

The Josh Cashdollar solution to ugly external port!

Some good clearance:

Time for some paint! Sadly, I only got one picture as 12:00 was approaching.

Snapped a quick headlight/ tail light shot in the garage lighting while waiting on paint to dry:

Time to do some trunk stuffing!

Oh no, major air leaks into the trunk! What to do???? Time to call Mr. Gorilla Tape!

Starting the sealing process. With a few shots to maybe make you understand and appreciated why I took an hour to tape this thing off!

Cashdollar2009 11-23-2010 07:48 AM

Hmmm... Still needs something to set it off a bit. How about I continue the color scheme I have been doing with my car!

Time to put all of the trim and side panels on along with the backseats!

Gotta represent!

Finally a few pics of my temporary amp rack. Going to get some finished ones later and add them up here. Just forgot to take some when it was "done." Tis things took a good bit of time.

My video camera recently broke so I may use my sister's digital camera again tomorrow and see what I can get for you guys. I have yet to do some real testing, just played a few songs. One word: Low. :)

Let me know what you think! :)

That's what the two rolls of Gorilla Tape are for! The box is 30" wide, so I made my second baffle 37" wide like my last box so it covered the hole. I'm trying to save as much resale value as possible so I didn't want to use any Great Stuff or anything. I have about 98% of the rear deck taped as well. Right now I have very little trunk rattle. There's such a noticeable difference!

Tell me about it. I post 120 pictures and that's all I get sometimes. :ninja: Oh well, the day I choose a new trunk lid over an amplifier, or subwoofer, or 60' of 2/0 or etc.... Don't think I haven't been junk yard diving the last couple summers. Or searching Craigslist constantly for part-outs. No one ever part out a black car within 100 miles of here!

And it sounds great! I'm going to do some testing today and maybe catch a video with my sister's digital camera. Not sure how quality is gonna be. She gets a good bit lower than my last box. I'm hoping to squeeze out a 145db on this setup. And I can't wait for a chance to hit a meter man!

Definitely gotta get a video on it man I'm itching to see it flex your ho. About how much $$ you spend all together?

cavaliers60 11-24-2010 02:05 AM

 I was wondering what response I would get from it. :) I like it though (the sub box). I'd like to hear it in person sometime.

cherrington17 11-24-2010 07:30 AM

I'm waiting for the door build....

you've had a monster sub for a quite a while.... it just keeps getting monster-er.

and how does it sound? thats a stupid question. Because I know anyone who is sitting in the front seat, wanting to hear the answer, won't be able to breathe well enough to give it.

cavaliers60 11-24-2010 10:05 AM

^^ It's so good, it kills!

Believe it or not, with the news mids and highs, I am quite impressed. You can hear the vocals over the bass at full tilt quite well. Of course I don't drive around like that. Believe it or not, at certain frequencies this thing will start digging in a little. lol

The tweeters in the sail panels honestly, don't give me quite the imaging I was looking for, as the driver's side panel is a little more angled down than I first thought. Though, it really isn't that bad either. I am running 100rms per channel so regardless of any mis-aiming, they are LOUD. And CLEAR as I was really more worried about that when I was researching and then made the purchase. What I will do in the future is tear off my door panels and tape up as many of the openings as I can to see if it helps my front stage mid-bass at all. That is the only weak point, per say, in my opinion.

I'll get a video for you guys as soon as I get my camera situation figured out. Being a broke college student doesn't help. :( This Friday it will be one year old as my parents got it for me last Black Friday. Though, of course the damn thing has a 6 month warranty! >:( I'll get a distance test and an in car test with some SQ songs. I'll be honest, Hotel California sounds beautiful.

I appreciate the compliments guys. It just makes me feel that much better about the investments I have made and the effort I have put into everything.

And Cavalier, you come out here to Pennsylvania and i'll let you hear it. :D

cavaliers60 11-25-2010 01:22 AM

scott192 11-28-2010 08:51 PM

Looking Good

Cashdollar2009 01-30-2011 12:50 AM

I appreciate the comments. I put a lot of time into this bad boy.

Just uploaded a video of random clips off of the sisters digital camera. Not the best at picking up flex... Trust me, you gotta be in it in person to appreciate the actual sound pressure.
