Please Help!

Hey guys, I need a little help here. I am in the process of doing a head gasket job and the new gasket kit which is Fel-Pro #HS9071PT-1. Just wondering what these ones are for. I have everything else figured out just questionable on these. Thanks for any help

I don't know about the others but i believe the last one is for the egr valve.

Valve cover grommets, Oil pump drive gear o-ring, downpipe gasket.

Whatever else there is a breakdown on the box.

thanks Cliff, I completely forgot to flip the box over. another dilemma has arose. It looks like the machine shop forgot to include one of my dowel head pins when they took care of the heads. Does anyone know if I would be alright with only using three and not all four.

Assuming you mean you will only have one dowel on one of your heads, no; you need to get another dowel at the dealership. Alignment is critical.

Thanks Ion thats what i thought. Just one more quick question, do you think it would be alright to cut a piece of copper tubing the same size and use in there or would the copper be too malleable to withstand engine temps. Im not trying to sound like I wanna "rig" it, I would just like to get this project done ASAP. Thanks

Copper is definitely too soft, not to mention dowel pins are solid and copper tubing is hollow.

my dowel pins are hollow but i figured that the copper would be too soft. I guess it waits again

Alright, instead of starting a new thread I will continue this one. So I got a hold of a new set of pins and today I just finished the whole head gasket job, I fired it up and it started fine and then all of a sudden i heard a sharp ping. I shut off the engine quickly then I could smell the great rotten egg odor. I started it again and it sounded normal then i hit the gas pedal a little bit and it just bogged down and shut off. My check engine light is on but i cant find my scanner tonight so with the sound of something bouncing around in my underside and the sulfur smell, I was thinking that the cat has decided to crap out. Thoughts opinions. Ill find my scanner tomorrow just to be sure

Pull the plugs and look at 'em just to be sure everything looks nice.

Have you ever put a head on?

Lucalare 05-07-2011 11:39 AM

No I haven't done heads before, but I thought I'd seen dowel pins and that they were solid. In any case I wouldn't replace a steel part with copper on anything that you care about.
