Which mufflers should i get.
i am thinking of switching from my 80 series muffler.
Here are some of the mufflers i am thinking of getting flowmaster 10 series flowmaster 40 series flowmaster 44 series dynomax turbo muffler dynomax VT muffler my car is the 3400. |
Did you consider the SLP Loudmouth? I have the muffler they used on the 2002 Firehawk and just used a couple of Magnaflow tips to finish it off. Sound is awesome man, you may like it. Its a 2.5" inlet and dual 2.5" outlet
oh no i did not think of SLP exhaust. You have any videos of the exhaust.
That video of the 1/4 that I posted the other day is that exhaust. I do have another of it but it is really short, Ill get you a link....

sounds good. i saw some videos on youtube also. can you get a catback system for the grand am/ alero or is it just mufflers.
Just muffler, had cat back custom made by Pipes Peformance here in Toronto
ok thanks i am thinking of buying some of the pacesetter headers so i can do a complete exhaust. i have been seaching the internet but i can not find a were the slp mufflers are for sale.
The only cat-back for the Alero is the Pacesetter and it's junk. You'll get a better quality system with your own choice of muffler for the same or less at a shop.
Also, what kind of sound are you going for. If you want a mild but powerful sound, go with the dynomax super-turbo. The VT in my opinion would be like garbage cause that valve essentially makes it a really small pipe diameter, so lots of backpressure, and loss of efficiency. The flowmaster super 40 and 44 will give you a fairly aggressive sound, and the 10 will give you a really aggressive (more so than the 80 you all ready have) sound. I have a turbo muffler on my Alero, and I love the sound of it, and the only way I would change it is I would go with something more like an 80 or 44 series flowmaster if this was going to go from a DD to a toy car. |
i am leaning toward the 44 series mufflers or SLP mufflers. But i am having a hard time finding slp mufflers. i already have 2.5 inch catback piping from when i got the 80 series. so i just need a Y pipe and I can weld and i have access to a lift and welder so installing it will not be a problem. The thing i an worried about is that the 10 series will be to loud and will sound bad. it is going to be a DD. i like the way redogs exhaust sounds but i know he has headers also. I am getting headers hopefully very soon. i am looking for an aggresive sound but i want it to sound good. i just want to a change. i have had 80 series on both of my alero's. you think that the dynomax will sound good if i have 2 of them.
Dont even consider the 10's Very loud and not street legal
I have 2 Flowmaster 44's and they sound great |
ya i am leaning toward the 44 series I like how you exhaust sounds on your alero. as I said earlier i am planning to get some headers soon. But I like he SLP muffler but I am having trouble finding those mufflers for sale online.
Was it hard to install the Y pipe. because i already have 2.5 inch exhaust. |
Well I have decided on getting the flowmaster 44 series mufflers I am getting 2 of them. i could not find any slp mufflers.

I have the 2.5"in/dual 2.5" out universal SLP muffler installed on my Grand Am. I did it about 2 months ago.
I also had an SLP system on my Alero several years ago.
did you like it and did sound like the 80 series or was it a different tone.
I always thought it sounded deeper than Flowmaster 80 series, but I also had headers at the time so it may not be a fair comparison. Like the flowmaster 80 series, I hated that it got really raspy at high RPM.
