Outer tie rod

Anybody have any experience with inner or outer tie rod replacing?
Ive looked it up on youtube and it seems simple but ill need a couple SPECIFIC tools which is maybe the reason ill bring it to a mechanic.

You don't need any specific tools. Just a couple wrenches and a big hammer (3 lb or so). Loosen the jamnut, remove the nut holding the tierod to the knuckle, then smack the KNUCKLE with the hammer a few times to break the tierod free. Count the turns taking it off and turn the new one the same number going on to get it close. Then go straight to an alignment shop to get it dialed in.

outer tie rod end is so easy. see above. inner tierods a different story. you would need to remove the outer, cut the band holding the inner portion of the boot to the rack, remove boot (and outer spring clamp), then use a special tool (to make the job easier) to losen the inner tierod end. then it just unthreads (like a bolt) from the rack.

Out tie rod ends are very easy. The special tool to pop the old socket end out does make the job a lot easier. I hate using the pickle forks.

Something to do as well when relacing outer; use a spot of nail polish, white out, or paint on the threads where it meets the threaded rod. Let that dry a few mins then when you pu the new one on you have a good marker to use!
