55W HID question

just put in my DDM tuning 55w HID's, THEY ARE AMAZING! 12,000k for low 10,000 for high. the high look like about a 8,000 33w but they are amazingly bright. BUT! only after a second or 2, with both high and low beams its like they take a few seconds to warm up to their full intensity. Is this normal?! do they just need to break in? or could it be that they are not getting enough power? Because I'm also pretty sure my alternator is going out again. where can I find a high output one for the 2.2?

Yes its normal. When the HIDs turn on they are dim and brighten up. All they are doing is warming up.

ok good, im not going crazy. will it get better with time or anything?

no thats just how they turn on.
just think of it like a light that you can dim. you start from off then you HAVE TO push it all the way up to the top for it to shine the brightest......(if that makes any sense)

I got the harness for it so you can run power directly from the battery instead of relying on factory wiring. I noticed the lights warm up quite a bit quicker also

Papa Rad17 08-28-2011 11:51 AM

I might invest in a harness soon...

I like how mine turn on lol

Are they the slim ones? I've heard that the slim ones are digital and the thicker ones are analog and the digital ones get to full intensity quicker than the analog ones.

Mine are digital and they still do that. Its the ballast. Same as fluorescent lights. They take a second or two to get to "full potential". Also a nice way of advertising that "I have HIDs" since they are the only ones that do that.

Papa Rad17 08-28-2011 04:35 PM

even right when you flip them on they are still brighter then other lights. And then after a second it's all in your face. I love them! And yes, they are indeed slim. I highly recamend the ddmtuning, just like everybody else. Lol.

Mine like to flicker once when warming up. It's funny. One side does it, then the other right after. They run normally after that. :) I'll try to get a video of it sometime.

Ok so now my fog lights look like complete crap. I'm wanting to get a 35w kit for them, should I go with 3000k yellow or 12k blueish to match the other lights? Not sure...
And cav, mine pop at their full intensity when first swithed on then they dim down and slowly come to life. And sometime we need to figure something out for getting my turn siganals done. It's bugging the crap out of me having the LEDs just laying around.

cavaliers60 08-28-2011 10:12 PM

haha, I'm free tomorrow, tuesday and Wednesday.

As for the fogs, I like to have my lights look the same... I HATE seeing different colored fogs with HIDs... I actually hate the yellow lights all together.

Papa Rad17 08-28-2011 10:28 PM

Well, I'm busy all this week and weekend... Is there any chance you could upload some pics? Like the wire running through the door panel and inso the mirror? Maybe then I'd be able to tackle some if it at least.
And the more I think about it I think I will just go with 10 or 12k for the fogs. I know the yellow is supposed to be better in fog but... It looks like crap, hid or not.

cavaliers60 08-28-2011 10:32 PM

sure thing. I can take some photos tomorrow and write up a how-to. I need to check the wiring anyways. :)

Papa Rad17 08-28-2011 10:40 PM

That would be sweet! Be sure to pm a link as soon as you get it up. And then be expecting a texting asking what I got myself into about an hour later. Lol.
