rear strut bar

ya know that specialty bolt nut whatever the hell it is thing you need to take off? is there any way to do without the specialty tool? O'rylies is going to charge me $60 for it, non returnable, autozone doesn't have it, napa doesn't have it, and none of the dealerships in town will loan it...

JLw7123 01-03-2012 07:07 PM

aare you trying to put on the strut bar. I just used an air ratchet and a deep socket to get the nuts off.

Papa Rad17 01-03-2012 07:41 PM

yes. and its not a regular nut. its a circle with 3 holes on the top of it, iv been at with channel locks and vice grips for 30 minuets with no success. my understanding is that the special tool thing has to release something via the holes in the top of it. the inner most ones have the regular nut on them, but the 2 outer one have that little thing.

spc2125 01-03-2012 07:45 PM

vice grips? yikes
i hope you didnt strip it

Papa Rad17 01-03-2012 07:49 PM

I haven't the damn thing to budge. still waiting... I'd really like to get it on tonight, anyone have any idea on the topic?

Hellfire5670 01-03-2012 09:53 PM

I guess you'll have to buy the tool... it would be good to have in the future :P

spc2125 01-03-2012 10:03 PM

wd40?

robalero 01-03-2012 10:18 PM

what on earth are you trying to do? just put a nut on top of it with the proper threads so its doubled nutted just make sure you used the thread gauge so you get the proper nut for the studs

those are welded nuts the bolts come out from the bottom to remove the strut, you are about to break your mounting points for your strut.

Papa Rad17 01-03-2012 11:20 PM

wwwwwhhhhhhaaaaaatttttt? I just want this thing off to mount the point for the strut bar. I think we are talking about a different thing... Im certainly not about to break anything, there a few bits of metal shaved off from spinning on it but thats when I stopped working at it, not like I was there pounding on stuff with a hammer.

its prolly suposed to be there, looks like the bolts are anchored there

TheEdgeofSanity 01-04-2012 12:49 AM

the two towards the outside of the car unscrew outside under the wheelwell and the one inside with the nut unscrews from inside the trunk.

Papa Rad17 01-04-2012 01:54 AM

Ya I can get the trunk one... I'll go at it from the wheel well for the other one tomorrow then

robalero 01-04-2012 07:38 AM

buddy look at the picture up top above yours you need to double nut it you don't need to take a thing off except that 11mm ( correct me if im wrong ) one on top inside the trunk

Papa Rad17 01-04-2012 08:35 AM

I tried. Won't budge.

alerored04 01-04-2012 09:25 AM

Those are pemanent strut mounts from under the car. Drop your bar over these and toss a few nuts on there.
