Ecotec ECU question
alright, the time has come for me to ask this because i am far to tired to use the search button. I do know that the speed limiter has been discussed numerous times. my question is, is it possible to swap a 2.2l cobalt ecu into the alero 2.2? i would guess that the cobalt has a higher top speed and a better Map as well.
 Discuss. |
your PCM can be reflashed. you don't swap PCMs from car to car as if they were plug and play. The only tuning software readily available for our cars is HP Tuners.

no... cobalts top at the same 110mph. basically the same set up in them both, but an alero still outruns the cobalt. so no need to swap... my guess is they wouldnt be compatible anyway.

The cobalt LT has a top speed of 124 mph, at least here in Rochester they do. thats the only reason i asked. but thanks for the info guys. i will try HPT. |
Hmm... his was just a regular base modle with no modes. 2007 I believe. Thats really all I can say about that experience. Different years and modle types may make a difference. But my dad walked in the door one day and said his was at 115, he has an 09 Lt2. 4door. Iv had to drive it before getting part for my car, I thought I was going to grow old before I got up to 60. Those things are made to much for the gas milliage end. Unless you go ss

The XFE was the fuel economy edition. In 2007 they made quite a few changes to the L61. I'd assume a Cobalt 2.2 would be slightly quicker than an Alero because the weight differences, but also depends on the tuning as well. Also the 2009 models have a different engine as well. |
Derailing thread! im going to pick up my alero in an hour. i will start a build thread with photos as soon as i get home.

Ya, my dads is still a 2.2 but its overall design is noticeably different. And I was actually surprised when I beat that guy. Off the line about a car length then started pulling away again at 90+ but like I said, he hasn't done anything to it. At the the time I had only had my intake put on.
