coolant temp at idle to high?
im sitting here idling and my coolant temp has gone up to 224 degrees with the ac off and blower motor off too. .. looks like the thermostate opened up or the fans cameon at 224 and temp went bacl down to 200 and dropping. Sound ok to u guys?
Saw mine do that many times man, thought it was normal. As long as it came down sounds fine
well good. Im glad im not the only one thats seen that happen
Check the thermostat just in case
small air bubble in the system? Mine does it too sometimes mine is a ecotec though.
Mine does the same thing. I thought about a 180 degree t-stat. But will that mess with my fuel economy?

thermostats set the minimum temperature for the engine, not the max your car will still get to whatever temp it is now, will just take slightly longer to get there |
what I did was lower both fan turn-on point (you need hptuner) it helped me maintain a constant temperature of 180-185* anytime when at idle or on traffic or waiting in line at the drag strip...

I just had that happen to mine on monday... went up to about 3rd mark on the temp gauge my fans didnt kick on either once i got going down the road it dropped thank you cold ass weather lol im going to look at the fan switch to see if it's not working maybe hardwire them to a switch like i have done with almost all my cars

verify with an infrared temp gun or a scan tool what your actual coolant temp is too. who knows. maybe your gauge is just a hair off and you could have been only a degree away from the fans coming on. |
Having an aeroforce scan gauge I can confirm that the gauge on the car can be inaccurate... not a whole lot but enough to scare you.

I've had mine go up to the 3/4 mark before without the fans ever coming on too. I don't know if what caused it, but after a while it just returned to normal like before just as it did with Jeremy. I've had my fans come on in cooler coolant temperature conditions than when it was at the 3/4 mark so I'm not sure that the coolant temp alone is the deciding factor of the fan turn on.
Had the same problem with mine put a scanner to it, it told me coolant temp was at 205 but gage was 3/4 of the way up check into it before replacing anything...
good job for checking. smart thing to do.
I like not wasting money... has anyone had 1-2 shift slippage is this the new transmission indicator lol
everyone has goofy 1-2 shifts
never had mine go goofy but on occasion it has mickey moused a few times.
Since I've had the Ultraguage and a ton of coolant problems I keep a sharp eye on the engine temp and the temp gauge will have the hand mid way while driving and the ultraguage reads about 194\195 then when I idle it will creep up to about 204\205...and the hand will be just above the midway mark. I guess my point is its really nice to have a number to go with what you are seeing.
iv done the same thing with my ultraguage. my car sits pretty at 188 while cruising.
mine is usually 180 at 70 mph
