Need speaker advice
This is for my Delta.
I need to get 3.5 inch speakers for the dash. The ones in there are orginal and suck pretty bad (after 27 years) and I would like to have all 4 speakers in the car from the same company. The rear are 6x9, just like in the Alero. I have it down to Pioneer or Infinity. I like the Infinitys better becasue they seem to be constructed better. Infinity Speakers model number "Reference 3032cf" Pioneer model number "TS-A878" Both are two way. The Pioneers go to 60 watts and the Infinity goes to either 75 or 90 watts (I saw both numbers listed on them) I'm using a stock GM 12 wire head unit. Single DIN, cassette deck, out of a 1978 Trans Am. Works well, but when I use the cassette for the iPod is gets very quiet. Yeah IDK. but that's another issue:awesome: |

  Get a decent head unit! |
i would go with the infinity's... i have both of which you speak, the sedan is infinity and the coupe is pioneer... my sound it much more crisp and clear in the sedan than the coupe... just my choice, but lol thats what you asked for!

Stock look, Sleeper look. Besides the car did have an aftermarket deck in it when I bought it. It was really FUBAR'ed and I gave it away, but I have that dash panel if I want to swap in a new headunit Quote:
OK thanks! I have the Pioneers in the Alero, might have to upgrade that too :awesome: |
Infiniti all around is far better than anything pioneer makes. The 6x9s are fantastic while the 3.5s will help fill the vehicle (maybe a tad too much high end, I'd look into a component set for up from with the tweeters up top and the woofers under the dash somewhere...). Kudos to the 'sleeper' idea, maybe hide a good HU somewhere else to actually run the sounds, hmmm...
|
infinity's for sure, even better would be factory premium 6x9s out of a alero or GA along with that monsoon amp that rocks,
|
as for the 3.5s, boy thats pretty much a toss up, they have to be capped and then your pretty much left with a tweeter, for dash speakers i was always a Pioneer fan theyre cheap, they sound great.

lol... i had the premium system with the monsoon amp from the factory... it sucks compared to my infinity upgrade... |

NO WAY dude....the stock system SUCKS....monsoon? lol...for "premium sound" they should have put the bose system in our cars....now THATS premium sound:lol: |

bose is over rated. |
if a 300watt 2ohm stable 4 channel amp with voltage sensing on/off suck im curious as to what your option a good amp is. My input was based on him running a stock head unit and the fact that most those older units were I believe 6ohm.
|
I left the monsoon in to push the front speakers which are the stock premium 2ohm. I'm running a pioneer head unit, kenwood 1800 watt mono block, pioneer 6x9s,2 infinity reference series 12s. It's not a show system, but with the deck dialed and gains set it would suprise you. I tried pioneers 3x5 in the doors which were 4 ohm and was highly disappointed how they sounded.

Why not the ones that sound better to you? People get too hung up on wattage, and pay no attention to speaker sensitivity (xx dB@1 watt 1 meter) and....get this...sound quality/preference. I used to use two of my older compact pa speakers for subs in my S-Blazer. The 15" woofers offered 99dB@1 watt 1 meter sensitivity within the frequency range I was using them. Your run of the mill mid priced auto sub is 90-93@1 watt 1 meter. I get the same volume with less amplifier power as a result. |
