Muffler for better sound

Just wanted to know some input on what kind of muffler I should get, any suggestions?

sleepyalero 03-12-2012 02:16 AM

people will tell you flowmaster 40s or super 44s.. maybe a turbo muffler. ive got pacesetter exhaust and love it.

if you're looking for a full exhaust the cheapest bolt on option is the pacesetter.....which sounds GOOD on the 3400 BUT it will rust out in a couple years. The next cheapest option is buy a muffler and go to an exhaust shop and have them put that on along with a custom exhaust. The most expensive option is the Borla (which i have on mine now)....stainless steel....sounds GOOD....not as loud as the pacesetter which is nice cause after a while it gets kind of old ;)

Sounds like your just looking for a muffler....go with what sleepy said

I have flowmaster 80 series with 2.5 inch piping and I really like the sound.

Flowmaster

BAleroS 03-13-2012 11:01 PM

Alright, what size inlet/outlet, do I need for those Flowmaster 40's?

colonel6632 03-13-2012 11:14 PM

straight pipe

Redog 03-13-2012 11:19 PM

I have a vid on youtube with my exhaust. I have 2 Flowmaster Super 44's on my Alero. The vid goes thru different RPM's. My Youtube name is Redogonyx. Just search that. Youtube doesn't work on some of the company computers

If you have stock exhaust and don't plan on upgrading the entire system, 2.25 inch is the stock size, if you are going to upgrade, do a 2.5 inch catback. Actually on the Alero, rear O2 sensor back ;)

Alright thanks Redog, I like the sound, but now how do I do the dual, or is it going to sound similar just using the single?

I have a vid of my exhaust I just dont have a way to upload it.

If you go dual, please do it right and what I mean by that is getting another cutout put on the other side of the bumper (I forget which side is stock, I've had dual cutouts on my car since 2001)

I thought you had slp mufflers ken... I must be going crazy

Redog 03-20-2012 04:43 PM

I used to, Pretty much the only piece of SLP pipe left is between the cat and the Y pipe

Goodman 03-21-2012 03:21 AM

I would go for Dynomax or Magnaflow they sound much , much better then Flowmaster IMO

Flowmaster mufflers sound nice at idle but as soon as you hit the gas it rattles like an old loose tin can

Anyhow going cheap on mufflers i would rather go with Thrush then Flowmaster any day ;)

The one i would buy would be Magnaflow single in dual out

Go check a few video on Youtube for the 3400 engine sound with different mufflers & make your own mind about it & you'll probably see/hear that Flowmaster are not so great after all...

MMGT1 03-23-2012 11:49 AM

JLw7123 03-23-2012 12:27 PM

I have flowmaster 80 series and it sounds great nothing like a tin can.
