Dorman EZ-Drain Oil Drain Valve
5 Attachment(s)
This is the Dorman EZ-Drain Oil Drain Valve. Size needed for 2.4 (not sure about 3.4 or 2.2) is the M12-1.75. It is a replacement for your oil drain plug. It makes for a lot cleaner oil change, and you dont have to worry about catching or losing the plug anymore.
How it works is, you tighten it down (since this will be its permanent position), and push in and twist the orange cap which opens the small drain holes on the inside of the plug. The oil then comes out the small hole and drains fairly slowly, but is definitely easier and cleaner. I feel if you let the engine run for a bit and let the oil get pretty warm, it will drain faster. I bought this at O'Reilly for $9.99. I just installed it, so I don't have any extended results, but will update in a couple weeks. A couple Amazon reviews said it leaks, hopefully mine won't be the case. |
lol....never would i do this....especially if after doing some research i found that it leaks  Its really not that big of a deal taking the regular one off....afraid to get your hands dirty? Good luck with that.

i like getting my hands dirty :)
|
I only read a couple reviews that it leaked, while most were good, so I'm gonna hope for the best. I'm not really worried about getting my hands dirty since I do it all the time. I just wanted a cleaner way of going about the monotonous job. I was kind of wary about it when I first put it on, but we'll see next time I do a change.

iv done many oil changes. removing the oil filter is more dirty then removing the drain plug.

if you have any shavings in your oil im sure it wouldnt come out from the holes on that plug. would just keep recirculating them.....fun for your engine.
|
I don't see how this would drain all your oil out.... It's a much smaller hole for the oil to flow through...
|
I would not be suprized to hear about these leaking. Pretty much everything Dorman makes is Chinese crap that doesn't fit right and or work for long.

It would all come out, it would just take a lot longer Quote:
I wouldn't buy a dorman power steering pulley because the reviews I've read basicly said that if you don't break it trying to get it on, it will break within 2 months on a DD car Should have saw the cheap ass lug nuts I had on the Delta, the ones that backed off the the studs and the wheels started coming off while driving, after torquing down to the required 80 ft lbs, or the key lock that was stripped after 10 uses  |

Agreed. I would never buy a doorman brand product for my car. They just seem sketchy. Oil changes are easy as is... I don't feel shortcuts or any enhancements are necessary.. Takes 20-30 minutes to do an oil change anyways. |
its neat, but id also stick with my stock drain plug, but i hope it works out and doesnt leak! be cool if it was a little better design and came in colors. :)

Hey, there's an idea for the Aleromod Olympics. Make it a timed contest at the next A.S.S. |
to many ways for thigns to get damaged or ways for people to get hurt...
|
Yeah, these are all very good points. I may take it off very soon.

I take longer than that, but on this car, at least with the V6 engine it's quite easy to change the oil yes. mostly because the filter is really easy to get to. |

I bet on your Escort you can change it in no time  |

Looked at it the other day and noticed a slight oil leak. Enough for me to take it off and throw the POS away. Decent concept though I guess.
