While driving tonight I heard a tap sound coming from my front end. Seems to have something to do with the wheels. SLower I go the longer between the taps. Faster I go the more taps. 20 25 MPH 2 - 3 taps a sec on avg from what I could tell. Almost sounds like something is rubbing. The other thing I found was at speeds 50 to 70 or above the steering wheel was shaking. Let it go it would go 1/2 - 3/4 inch side to side not moving the car at all. Even when I tried my best to hold it from moving it still moved a bit but not as much. Last when I started my car and left my drive way my breaks felt like they would lock up with the lightest taps to slow the car. I got up to around 10 MPH and stopped on a dime. This is not normal for my car I have ABS should have kicked in and slowed the car down not stop it like it did. I'm thinking rotors and breaks need to be fixed. Am I right?

Could be. The noise also could be a wheel hub though.
I'll betcha you have a wheel hub going bad, because the ABS sensors reside in that. |
damn I know how much they are. Wonder if that is covered. Thanks.

I had one go bad and it was covered
Oh didn't say but it only started after I took my rim off when I installed my CAI a few months back.
I don't think that matters much
Ok cool thanks.
put your car on jack just enough to get the wheels of the ground. and grab the wheel, if it goes in all directions your hub is bad. if it only "steers" its still good.
Ok I well do that in the morning. Need to replace my intake filter so I needed to take my car up anyway. Damn cover over my filter fell down from where I put it and the filter rusted out bad.
Thanks for your help. |
the vibration btw 60-70 mph is your wheels aren't balance. Prolly a weight fell off while driving.
Cool I am going to bring it down to get fixed. I got them done 3 weeks ago should be a free job to fix.
