New mods

Well today I went to the local junkyard and picked up a oldsmobile intrigue gauge cluster and some grand am side mirrors, the thing I like about the intrigue gauge cluster is its the same thing but the redline is actually red and it goes to 8000 rpm and it looks amazing day and especially night. Mirrors were a peice of cake, bolted right on plugged right in and works perfect plus looks pretty good, ill take pics tomorrow!

gauges might look cool, but unless you build you will never use a tach any higher than stock...does it work right as soon as you plugged it in, or were there changes that needed/need to be made

I wana see the intrigue cluster in the alero :) get those pics up ASAP

sleepyalero 05-16-2013 01:19 AM

the intruige cluster will not work for the alero, IIRC. Mfuller tried and it wouldnt work.

WIALERO 05-16-2013 01:58 AM

Not even take off the black face and put it on a alero cluster?

sleepyalero 05-16-2013 02:19 AM

im not sure. i just know its not plug n play.

WIALERO 05-16-2013 03:56 AM

The intrigue cluster requires discrete power mode inputs, where the Alero receives this information via Class 2 data.

I'm not sure if you can just add those power mode wires and it will be all fine and dandy.

Does the intrigue cluster have all the same lights in the same location as the Alero?

i think, i remember mfuller explaining it to me awhile back. because he was going to do the swap, but he said it would not work. maybe he will chime in.

Guys it works perfectly fine I took the curcuit board out of the alero cluster and put it in the intruige one -_-

Here's with light

It didn't work at first so I swapped the circuit boards... The only reason I wanted it was for the red and it still shifts at the right rpm anyways, not that it matters I don't drive around town with the peddle to the metal. And without the circuit boards swapped I would have incorrect miles from the donor car

03Sleepr 05-17-2013 01:14 AM

So, does the tach display the correct rpm?

Does it still how what gear you're in?

Difflay 05-17-2013 01:15 AM

Yes and yes, look at the pics? It's red :)

Difflay 05-17-2013 01:19 AM

And the needle isn't resting perfectly at 0 because I didn't push that tab in all the way, which ill fix later, not too worried about it... It took the longest time though because I took the needles off to clean the junkyard cluster off and then I had to have the car running and put the needles back on at the right spot so they worked good so FYI don't remove the needles lol

sleepyalero 05-17-2013 03:01 AM

its nice, but your car will never see the 8k mark :(

I couldn't understand your word blob paragraph thing..

mfuller 05-17-2013 08:46 AM

Can you please post some instructions on how to change the circuit board? I'd love to do this as my car will see 7000+ RPM easily.

sleepyalero 05-17-2013 09:30 AM

I am impressed though, im sure you are the first to actually make it work, but not the first to wonder about swapping. :)
