Ran Engine with No Oil
Today, I was driving back home, when my oil light turned on. I was like five blocks away, and got a red light. I managed to get home, to find out that I hit a speed bump, and broke my oil pan. It was still leaking oil when I got there. Do you think the engine is still okay? It was making a bit of noise when I got there, but seemed to be running fine.

Should be okay. Put some oil in it when fixed and you will find out.
I bought my daily wrecked for 150$. And it had no oil in it and i started it a few times. Motor was ticking pretty damn good threw some oil in it. All is fine. Been driving it for 20k miles no issues. |
Thanks. Hopefully I can fix it by Monday. Maybe my mech can weld it or something in the meantime. I am actually glad it is the pan, and not something else. Like an oil pump or something. I will post updates on the situation

Cool, let us know the results.

I also suspect that you can just replace the pan, refill, and be OK. From what I understand you probably didn't even completely run out of oil and didn't go very far.

Finally done! It was a relatively cheap fix. The hole in the oil pan was pretty small, so I removed the oil pan, and had it welded both inside and out. I installed it today, along with new oil, and the engine seems to be doing great. There was no metallic residue in the pan upon removal, and the engine is not making any noises to be concerned about. Thanks everyone.

Glad that worked out for you.

Awesome! I thought a new engine or the junkyard was in your car's future :usa:

That should work. In fact even JB weld might work, since the pan isn't under much of any pressure. |
Thanks! I too was afraid I would need a new engine. I also thought about the whole pan not being under pressure as well. That is a major advantage.
