Well... I changed my rotors and front brakes today, and I know how much trouble we've all had with rotors/brakes on the 'ho, so I was wondering what the actual figures are? I'll start
88K miles and I've gone through 2 calipers 7 front rotors 9 sets of front brakes never replaced or changed rear rotors or brakes If this is has already been brought up feel free to delete... :thumbsup: |
If your using GM replacement parts then there is your reason. Always buy aftermarket.

Doesn't really matter that much.. I mainly use Brembo parts.. and it maybe gives you an extra 2k miles..

i dont know about that.
i've had the car for 2 years... put performance breaks and pads on once, and that's it. and i usualyl drive like i stole it. |
I've had my new brakes on for about six months, and have yet to have any problems. I beat the living poop out of em, too. My car has 95,000 miles on it, I bought it with 50,000. It had stock rotors and pads. So, I've only replaced the rotors and pads once.

I just had all 4 rotors, front calipers, and all the pads replaced. My car is worse than the day I brought it in. I'm thinking about doing everything myself this time and buying aftermarket everything.
My question for you all is has anyone fixed this problem? I don't mean getting new rotors that can withstand heat better and not warp as fast - I mean get to the root of why they get so hot. Is there a problem with our boosters? Maybe it isn't fully releasing the brakes completely causing minor constant rubbing thus causing our rotors to overheat and warp. I would like to figure this out or I'm trading my car in :( . I really don't feel like having a car payment again - but these danm brakes are starting to cost me a fortune. btw - I'm glad I found this forum. I was thinking I bought a lemon - but it looks like all Aleros have this problem. The wife and I both bought Alero's in '02. Her brakes started acting up after 25k (I traded it in for my MR2 Spyder) and now my Alero's (which she now drives) entire brake system is shot at 40k. |

aleros weren't designed as family or grandma cars, it was designed to target younger buyers and (should have) been built that way.

In my research and just talking to other buyers, we have come to the conclusion that the GA was designed for the younger crowd, with the Alero designed for a little bit older crowd that wants some cushiness with their little bit of performance.

ok, well even though i disagree, lets say you were right, and that the GA was designed for the younger crowd. well the alero has the same brakes.

i've had my '99 since the end of '02. started at 19,000 miles. now..i'm a little over 65,000. replaced all 4 pads once at about 55,000 and replaced all 4 rotors once at about 59,000 (even though they didnt need it) got front and rear drilled and slotted rotors off ebay for $150 and they're a whole lot better than stock, even with stock replacement pads.

What gets me about these brakes is that the design has been out since 97 when they started using it on the Malibu. You think after it had 100's of problems with the brakes then, they would have redesigned the calipers and such before putting them on the new 99 Alero and GA. GM is just stupid.....
