I am getting alot of what sounds like knocking noises over bumps from my front and rear suspension.
First of all. The front end has new struts and mounts so I know that's not it. Could worn out stabilizer links on the front cause bumping/knocking noises over bumpy roads?? I live in Manitoba so driving over all the icy roads this time of year causes lots of noise. I can even feel it a bit like a vibration through the floor. Also how do you check to see if the links need replacemen? And the rear end is another story since nothing is new back there and I 'll get it checked at a dealership. Any tips though on how they check the suspension for worn out components??? I figured with some info on how to check for worn out stuff, I could save on paying for the inspection Thanks |
im sure they look for play whether its vertical or horizontal........worn out bushings......things like that....

I had a tie rod end that was giving me a similar sound when hiting sharp dips or bumps. plus it was making lots of roadnoise.

I would check the tie rods... one way to check it is jack it up grab the wheel and try to move it side to side like shaking it. if it moves then the tie rods may be worn.. the cost about $65 and a dealership and they are not hard to put on.

Mine just creaked and squeaked so I replaced the struts

I think its the Canadian winters. Mine has been knockin' and a popin' and a squeakin' since my first winter with her (new). I've had everything checked out a dozen times, and now just live with it. When it gets warmer (for a few months) it quiets down.

^^ Oil in the struts frezze. That's the squeaking ;)

it may also be your cv joints up front. my roommate told me that in Alaska
you are required to replace your cv joints every 6 months by law. because of the constant cold weather. but i don't know how true that is he is from Alaska so he probably knows. my right front just went and it makes small popping noise when on a not so bumpy road. my susepension squeaks also seem to go away when the weather is warm. |
